NANOG, We're looking to engineer a new ticketing system for our NOC. I know that several of you have had good experience with Request Tracker and Keystone; i'd like comments from people who are using other open-source systems (i'm not interested in Remedy). Particularly, i'm wondering if anyone's using GNATS or Jitterbug for tracking of this sort, and if so, what kind of modifications you've had to make to interface it to the rest of your stuff. Please respond privately in order to clear the way for WTC terrorist traffic, and i'll summarize later to the list after all the fury has died down. Thanks, Tim

STATEMENT FROM CON EDISON

Tuesday's terrorist attack on the World Trade Center has had a significant impact on Con Edison's energy infrastructure in lower Manhattan. The fire and subsequent collapse of 7 World Trade Center have permanently damaged two substations located adjacent to the building as well as major electric transmission cables. A third substation located near the South Street Seaport also lost service. Approximately 12,000 customers are currently without electric power, approximately 270 steam customers are without service and approximately 1400 customers are without gas service. There are 140 Con Edison crews working in the devastated area. We are inspecting and testing equipment, preparing work locations and are coordinating our efforts with appropriate emergency agencies. We are currently making arrangements to obtain generators to help speed the temporary restoration of electric service in lower Manhattan.

Yesterday's disaster in New York has had an impact on systems vital to the provisioning of DSL in our northern footprint (NY & NE). We are asking ISPs who offer DSL in NY and NE, to hold all NY & NE orders until further notice. Efforts to heal this breech are underway at this time, but we must be sensitive to the conditions that exist in the affected area and we are certain that you can understand that we have no firm timeframe to convey at this time. We will be sharing more information with you later this afternoon, as it becomes available to us. Due to this systems outage we would also ask all ISPs in the East who offer DSL in NY & NE, to be aware that any orders with an SRD of 9/13 or beyond may not be complete on the expected SRD. Our provisioning organization is working diligently to provide us with more information on these orders and again, we will provide you with this information as soon as it becomes available. A vendor of ours had made a report to us that there was a structural problem with the building which caused our NOC to act appropriately, but as far as we can tell the information is unverified. The alarms were set off, and the wheels were set in motion to prepare for the worst. We're still looking into the issue, and I say again, the information is unverified. -Steve

Suggestions (assist offers & IDC status?)

Is someone (I guess I could if agreed to) collating information in one central location on the following? * Offer for assistance (DNS, MX, transit, hosting, equipment, etc...) * Internet Data Center current status I know a number of companies have offered assistance (including the one I work for), but I haven't seen any concise list of "contact this person, at this company, for this service". Additionally, a number of questions have been raised about the status of various private and shared data center / colo / telco-hotel facilities in/around NYC and WaDC... yet again, no concise list.
