Worldcom US have confirmed that there is definately a major fibre cut in New-York and they quote "if you have anything going in or out of NY it will be affected". They do not currently have an ETR. InterNap

Is anyone familiar regarding the services provided by a company called InterNap? We've been approached by them and my boss is convinced we should drop several of the T's we have with different providers and get a fractional DS3 with them. I am not sure that would be a smart thing to do so I'd appreciate any comments regarding their services. Thanks! -Victor

We brought up a 5th OC-3c circuit between MCI/Worldcom and NASA Ames yesterday to prevent any congestion on the trunks. I think the right plan of action should be: a) design numbering plan allowing aggregation on per-location basis; b) design a dynamically-routed redundant backbone and c) attach tree-like access networks to the backbobne. The backbone should not take _any_ routing information from the leaf networks. It would also help to keep strict access controls, and separate backbone routers from leaf access routers, so only the authorized backbone engineers can change things in those. Leaf networks should do static routing, and no proxy ARP. This way any damage from badly behaving hosts or apps is limited to the segment they're on. And don't do multicasting. May be we should start defensive networking classes? :) --vadim
