SFP vs. SFP+

I was asked today what the difference between SFP and SFP+ is. I did really know, so I looked it up and it seems that the SFP spec provides capabilities for data rates up to 4.25Gb/s, whereas SFP+ supports up to 10Gb/s. Naturally, this made me wonder whether or not an optic that supported 10GbE always conformed to the SFP+ standard inherently, or if there are cases where a 10GbE optic might only support the SFP standard, thus having a 4.25Gb/s bottleneck.

Is it possible to order a ISDN BRI line from the LEC and have them look at the design of a DS1 and have them if possible design the ISDN BRI lineon a devurse path or at lest different equipment within the CO?

AT&T MPLS / BIB Routers

We just put in a AT&T MPLS and are having a pretty negative experience with the "Business in a Box" routers they are using for our smaller sites. We are seeing extremely high latency under load. Anyone have any experience with these devices that could shed some light on this? Are they really this bad?

Solar flare to reach earth

These "coronal mass ejections" will slam into the Earth's magnetic shield. The biggest flares can disrupt technology, including power grids, communications systems and satellites. To the people who answer tech questions on this list

This list serves a number of purposes and one of them is to answer technical networking questions. But this list is also not the only place that these types of questions are asked. For instance, LinkedIn has a Q&A feature where people can ask and answer questions on a wide range of topics. Just today I came across this BGP question: http://www.linkedin.com/answers/technology/information-technology/computer-… I would never suggest that LinkedIn could replace the NANOG mailing list, but it is an interesting complement to it. There is a NANOG group here: http://www.linkedin.com/groups?mostPopular=&gid=40718 and a number of people are using LinkedIn for professional purposes. I know many of you tried out Orkut and then migrated to Multiply.com and found them lacking. But I would suggest that LinkedIn might be more useful, in particular, to provide an entry level tier for questions. A lot of NANOG members are rather intimidated to ask questions which might seem too beginner and I think that the NANOG group on LinkedIn might be a good place to encourage such questions in order to draw out more discussion among NANOG members without boosting the mailing list traffic.
