Recent changes to UltraDNS, problems?

Has anyone else noticed any strange problems lately when querying UltraDNS for name server records? I have a few scripts that seem to have broken in the past week. A simple PERL script that looks up NS records from the root servers, which worked fine last week, suddenly starts reporting that the query is returning an empty answer. If I change it to any other TLD servers/domains, it works fine. What is even more strange is that when I use dig, the lookups are just fine. (most of the time) Can anyone at UltraDNS (or anyone else for that matter) shed some light on what might have changed/broken? #!/usr/bin/perl use strict; use Net::DNS; #version 0.48 my @tld = ("tld1.ultradns.net", "tld2.ultradns.net"); my $res = Net::DNS::Resolver->new; $res->nameservers(@tld); my $query = $res->query("adaconline.org", "NS"); if($query) { print "It worked!\n"; } else { print "It failed!\n"; } exit; In the above case the query always returns undef and the errorstring returned is no error. ad.doubleclick.net missing from DNS?

The A record for ad.doubleclick.net is missing from DNS. This is causing apparent web page slowdowns when viewing web sites containing ads linked to ad.doubleclick.net

mail not delivered to ep.net -> no IP address assigned for exchanges

Anyone reading here from ep.net? It seems to me that the IP request form for internet exchanges http://www.ep.net/ipadd-req.html does not work and mails go down the drain somewhere (see below). Hmmm, have to disagree with your opinion Tampa too. Ever been to Ybor City (just a hop-skip from Tampa)? They shut down the main drag and let you stumble from bar to bar without fear of being hit by a car. Also lots of great restaurants there. I spent 6 mths there stationed at MacDill AFB and loved it. I would move there if I weren't married to someone who has two possible skin colors - fish belly white and lobster red. The strangest cable modem issue

I thought I'd ask NANOG this, since somebody may be from a large cable operator and may know. I am a Comcast customer and don't want to call this in through tech support, as I've tried that before without any success. I use my cable modem normally - to surf the web, to play a game or two, and to listen to stream casts. I have a buddy who often needs tech support, so I use RAdmin (http://www.famatech.com/radmin/) to login to his computer and go through stuff with him. I use large TCP packets, small UDP packets - ICMP, ESP - large and small. RAdmin can transfer files from desktop to desktop. Ethereal reveals this is a standard TCP based protocol used on the RAdmin port tcp/4899. If I want him to have a file, I push it that way. Last night - I decided to start IIS FTP server, and have him use his SmartFTP (www.smartftp.com <http://www.smartftp.com/> ) client to pull several larger files from me. I poked a hole in the Linksys router's port forwarding for FTP and off we went. He grabs the first file, and it's going along at roughly the correct uplink speed for Cable (20 KB/s or so) and all is fine. Then, my cable modem reboots. Stops dead. All the lights go off and start blinking, a full reload. It grabs the same IP address via DHCP and he restarts. Again, about 15 seconds into the download, it crashes the cable modem. We do this about 5 times to really make sure it's just FTP doing this. I have a DOCSIS 1.1 modem from RCA (http://www.rca.com/product/viewdetail/0,2588,PI700502-CI700094,00.html? ) I have a Linksys BEFSR81 (http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?prid=155&grid=5) with the latest firmware FTP is the only protocol that does this. Using RAdmin file transfer, I push files to him over tcp/4899 and it doesn't happen. The cable modem is somewhat old, perhaps it needs to be flashed with a newer image, but I am not sure what could cause it. Ideas?

Having spent the first 30 years of my life in the DC area (MD and VA suburbs), I have to disagree. Reston puts you within reasonable driving distance of hundreds of great restaurants (of all ethnicities), clubs, museums, monuments, memorials, and general excitement. Just don't try to get to any of it during rush hour, especially not Friday afternoon rush hour :) Willing to make restaurant recommendations off-list :) I'm drooling in rememberance of some of them...I miss African & Middle Eastern food living here in the St Louis boonies. Hello all, In the wake of SOx compliance, I'm now in the position of having to generate or advance some security policy work in areas that I've never investigated before (O/S Build Standard, Application/System Development, 3rd Party System Development). While I understand that this list is more on the operational side of things, I was hoping that someone (or a few) have had some exposure to the policies I've listed above and my be able to point me in the correct (passing an audit) direction. Precise per GB traffic calculations.

Does anyone know of a solution that offers precise methods of tracking bandwidth utilizations at the per Megabyte or Gigabyte level and not at the rate of transfer level? Some people are asking me if we can bill them in this manner, and I'm questioning whether the stats that the switch are giving us are that accurate. Hit me off-list. Thanks, -Drew

[ Apologies if you receive multiple copies ] Call for Presentations NZNOG '05 The next conference of the New Zealand Network Operators' Group is to be held in Hamilton, New Zealand between February 2nd and 4th 2005. Our hosts are the University of Waikato's WAND Network research group. NZNOG meetings provide opportunities for the exchange of technical information and discussion of issues relating to the operation of network services, with particular emphasis on New Zealand. NZNOG invites presentations on relevant topics. Suitable topics include, but are not limited to: Carrier IP network architectures; Internet exchange activities; VoIP deployment; IP Routing theory or practice; Peering policy; Access technologies including mobile and other wireless; Network and service management tools and practices; Other software relevant to network operation. Presentations from researchers and from practitioners are welcomed. Presentations don't need to fit any particular fixed length. Possible formats range from day-long tutorials to very short presentations floating an idea or reporting on a discovery in a less formal manner. Suggestions for topics for presentations or discussions are also welcome. Prospective presenters should in the first case send email to talks(a)nznog.org describing their intended presentation topic, and giving some idea of the level of detail and length of presentation which would suit them. We'd prefer to receive offers to present sooner rather than later, but there is a timetable: By 22 October 2004: All offers to present received By 31 October 2004: All acceptances of presentations notified.
