Hi all, The next UKNOF meeting will take place on Thursday 11th October 2012 in London, and the Programme Committee are seeking content from the community for this meeting. You may often hear it said that UKNOF's remit is "distribution of clue", so if the content of your talk fits with that ethos, we're actually pretty open minded about what the actual topic is - as long as it's relevant to our community's broad area of interest, and the quality is good. Talks are usually around 20 to 40 minutes in length, and common subject areas are: Network operations Network architecture and design Networking hardware and software architecture Peering and interconnect Data centre design and operations IPv6 deployment Network monitoring and measurement New innovations in networking technology Open protocol standards Domain Name System infrastructure Network security and abuse prevention Impact of public policy of network operations But, we're always on the lookout for something different, so don't feel it has to fall into the areas above. We're also interested in hearing proposals for panel discussions, as these are a great way of presenting and discussing different views on the same subject. Please send your proposals to <submissions(a)uknof.org.uk>, including a short abstract of the subject, and draft slides if these are available. The closing date for submissions is the 30th June 2012, but don't worry if you miss the deadline and have something interesting to talk about, as we are often able to accept shorter (10 minute) "lightning talks" closer in to the meeting. Please also get in touch if you would like to suggest any topics, themes or speakers. Please note that UKNOF is free to attend, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, and run on a non-profit (cost-recovery) basis, so is therefore unable to reimburse speakers' expenses. Looking for W7 whois freeware

I am looking for a Window 7 GUI utility that does raw whois - not the standard domain lookup, but rather allows me to specify and change the whois server I am talking to and allows me to customize the whois search string for IPs or ASNs or anything else a whois server will accept, like: "-B -G as378". I know of ezwhois but am looking for something better (for example - they don't have whois.ripe.net listed - one can add it but not save it). Thanks, Hank

Juniper advertises ::/0 Cisco hears ::/3

This one is very strange... Has anyone seen this behavior with BGP IPv6 between Juniper (owned by Level 3, advertising routes correctly, sending default ::/0) and Cisco (6509 running 12.2.58.SXI6 advipservices, receiving all routes fine except default, hearing ::/3)? I have requested Level 3 engage Juniper TAC, but am not expecting them to come up with anything since they already confirmed they are sending ::/0. We have a second connection to Level 3 that is Cisco - Cisco and it is working fine. My gut says this is one of those Juniper - Cisco communications issues, but I need proof. Not sure if this is the right list to send this out to, but I figured I'd give it a try. I'm looking for anyone with a contact at Eircom.net. Customers on their network are continually trying to brute force RDP machines on our network. Fail2ban does automatically null route them and send them an email, however all I get is a rfc-ignorant auto reply stating to fill out a form on their website. In fact, they have been listed as rfc ignorant since 2006. http://www.rfc-ignorant.org/tools/detail.php?domain=eircom.net&submitted=11… I've also sent emails to noc(a)eircom.net but received no reply whatsoever. Dear, Could anybody recommend any hardware that can build a VPN that works well over satellite connections? (TCP enhancements) I want to setup a L3 VPN between 2 satellite connections Even additionally if that hardware would also support WAN bonding even better because I also have a scenario to connect 2 times 2 satellites to have more capacity for my L3 VPN Regards, Rens
