[ Apologies if you saw this elsewhere already - jtk ] Friends, colleagues, fellow operators, The network security track, formerly known as the ISP security BoF, has plans to return at NANOG 75 in San Francisco February 18-20. I will be your track facilitator. I have a small handful of topics I'm soliciting from some folks directly, but options are good, and I may be missing something important. If you haven't heard from me already, then I want to hear your ideas or proposals. This is a good, casual place to go with netsec related ideas, tools, or case studies. trace from behind tata noam

a host in as4128, 198.180.152.15, is having problems getting to stuff behind as6453 (tata). so i try to get an atlas traceroute toward 198.180.152.15 from as6453. but atlas whines Probes selection: Your selected ASN is not covered by our network so not even one measly probe. if anyone here is 'behind' 6453 en route 198.180.152.15, can you send a trace, please? thanks. randy

Call For Presentations - DNS-OARC Workshop, Thailand, Bangkok, 12th/13th May 2019

The 30th DNS-OARC Workshop will take place at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand, on May 12th and 13th 2019, hosted by ICANN. (Note that several co-located meetings are taking place immediately prior to the DNS-OARC Workshop, including the GDD Industry Summit, May 6th-9th, the Registrations Operations Workshop, May 9th, and the ICANN DNS Symposium, May 10th-11th.) The Workshop's Program Committee is now requesting proposals for presentations. All DNS-related subjects are welcome. A timeslot will also be available for lightning talks (5-10 minutes) on day two of the workshop for which submissions will be accepted until the start of the morning session on day two. There will be a Members-only session during the workshop, which will include reports on DNS-OARC's activities. If you are an OARC member and have a sensitive topic that you wish to present during that session those can be accommodated. Verizon: Extremely Strange CPE Routing in NYC/NJ Area

Can anyone from Verizon take a look at this behavior for us? We’re having multiple Verizon FiOS users in the NYC/NJ area appear to teleport from their FiOS router to our IP in the Pittsburgh region. Users are seeing extreme slowness with TCP traffic, but ping times seem reasonable. User 1: 1 fios_quantum_gateway (192.168.1.1) 1.575 ms 2.426 ms 3.193 ms 2 204.16.244.8 (204.16.244.8) 2.269 ms 3.055 ms 2.727 ms User 2: 1 fios_quantum_gateway (192.168.1.1) 1.565 ms 1.048 ms 0.947 ms 2 204.16.244.8 (204.16.244.8) 2.162 ms 3.588 ms 3.048 ms I can provide end-user NYC/NJ IPs off-list if desirable. GTT Regulatory Recovery Surcharge

We've been a GTT customer for several years and on our latest bill we now have a "Regulatory Recovery Surcharge" of almost 10% tacked on. We only purchase IP Transit services from them, nothing else, and have never had any fees tacked on top of our contracted agreed upon amount. Has anyone else ran into this? If this is a legit "surcharge" any idea of why we were never charged for that before? I figured I'd reach out to the community on this prior to jumping to further conclusions. -Brandon

Same situation with us. We have dozens of circuits with them as a result of that acquisition and the previous ACI acquisition of Canopco and OneConnect. Not impressed. Not a happy customer. This is how telecomm companies pad out their margins these days. You don't even want to know the % of my bill that is just "fees" I'm paying Level3 on a wave circuit. At this point I won't sign for service without knowing exactly what I'll be paying in terms of fees and surcharges and such - there's some stuff you can't avoid on some types of circuits, but for the most part, it's all just padding out their margins.
