Dear NANOG community, With the increasing prevalence of address‐space leasing—effectively operating as “mini‐RIRs” for IP distribution—fragmentation of address blocks has become a critical concern. How are network operators and registry practitioners today tackling the challenge of fragmentation in IP address allocation? - Are there any comprehensive research studies or white papers that survey fragmentation mitigation techniques or propose novel allocation algorithms? - What best operational practices have emerged for assigning large, contiguous prefixes (e.g. /16) rather than multiple smaller blocks (e.g. /18s) across diverse networks? - How do operators handle geo‐locational constraints and customer reluctance to renumber when reassigning addresses across multiple regions or networks? It must be preactivated on services used by a minor ( sim card basically) There is opt in/out and larger providers are required to offer solutions that allow parents to control various categories in some way or another, all for free. You may offer add ins at a cost , such as additional blocking categories, security services and whatever else you can dream up. Brian

Hello, Is anyone out there aware of a fail safe switch/router/1U server where upon power failure or watchdog event 2 ports would fail to pass through data, but could also be assigned an IP address and act as a bridge in "normal" mode? The desire is to have an appliance that could perform monitoring and send telemetry in between a customer device and an Internet connection but not create a single point of failure or require multiple ISP handoffs.
