NEC 2026 changes for data/communication wiring

The 2026 National Electrical Code is ready for publication. The scope of Chapter 8 is changed from all building communication system installations, to only communications wiring outside or at the cable entrance point. Data/Communication system wiring is now in Chapter 7, which means it will be covered by general NEC requirements. For those designing data centers after 2026, many data/communication installation "best practices" will become code requirements. Probably the biggest change will "working clearances" for communications equipment in wiring closets and cabinet door openings in data centers. No more cramming equipment into shared closets or draping cables across the room. After the 2026 NEC is adopted, building code officials will be able to enforce those requirements.

What is the purpose of 8.5.7? If the network must meet the requirements of 8.5.5 and 8.5.6, what is the use of 8.5.7 especially since it has a limit while 8.5.5 does not? Sites unreachable while traversing Dallas IXP

Group, I've been Peering with both Route Servers in the Dallas IX for over a month using a single 10G link with no issues. Due to capacity concerns I had to augment to a 20G LAG. In order to do this, I shut the existing link down (which dropped both eBGP sessions), used the existing IP space to create the LAG, and then added the 2nd 10G link. The eBGP sessions reestablished over the LAG and traffic started flowing error free. No configuration changes to routing policy at all. After a few days we started to get customer complaints for certain sites/domains being unreachable. I worked around the issue by not announcing the customer blocks to the route servers and changed the return path to traverse transit. This solved the issue, but I'm perplexed as to what could've caused the issue, and where to look to resolve it. If you guys could provide feedback and point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. TIA. ~Andy

Nick, I agree that theoretically there should be no problem with different hashing implementations on each end, but as I noted in my original answer, I have directly experienced issues like packet reordering and dropped packets. Perhaps this was due to a bug of some sort in one of the implementations. I do know that changing ONLY the algorithm on one end solved the problem. Once I found a working configuration, I simply noted the potential issue for the future and avoided it.
