NETCOM: Interest in placing order to the SF-NAP, an ATM port has been reserved and a DS3 circuit is being verified between PacBell Palo Alto ATM switch and the NETCOM POP is Santa Clara. Sprint will peer with and announce all our customer routes (including reseller and international routes) to any NSP or any other party which connects to any of the NSF priority NAPs. We will take all the routes announced by and belonging to anybody attached to any of the NSF priority NAPs and use them within SL/ICM the routing matrix, and announce them to all our customers who take full routing (including reseller and international customers). We will do the same thing with any IP service provider which connects to MAE-EAST+/MAE-EAST or either of the two FIXes. We also will investigate other public peering points as events progress. I wouldn't expect anyone to announce bilateral peerings until level-2 connectivity is up and running properly. Sean.

Chicago NAP Status Report Ameritech Advanced Data Services 10/14/94 ISI/Route Server: A letter of intent from ISI has been received. ISI will ship a cisco 7010 router and Sun workstation to AADS operations in Chicago. The equipment space is being prepared, and will be ready by the time the equipment arrives. MCI: A letter of intent and purchase order from MCI has been received. A DS-3 circuit to the MCI POP at Downers Grove has been ordered. ANS: A letter of intent has been received from ANS. A DS-3 circuit to the ANS location at Downers Grove has been ordered. Sprint: The order is being worked on. Sprint intends to use their own circuit for access to the AADS ATM service. We are also in discussions with various other ISP/NSPs and government agency networks regarding connection to the NAP. Mark

About nine months ago, this group discussed our mission statement. Mark Knopper and Elise Gerich had presented a draft statement at the regional-techs meeting in San Diego, CA. The draft was revised at the meeing in San Diego, and I would like to post this statement in the NANOG directory. It is enclosed for your perusal. --Elise ------------------------------------------------- Charter for a North American Network Operators Group (NANOG) Mark Knopper Elise Gerich January 1994 Objectives of the Group The goals of NANOG are as follows. 1. Will hold 3 regular meetings of network service providers per year. 2. Establish a forum for the exchange of technical information. 3. Discuss specific implementation issues which require cooperation and coordination among network service providers to ensure the stability of overall service to the network users. 4. Serve as a focal point for other common activities of the participants. 6. Promote and coordinate interconnection of networks within North America and to other continents. Membership and Hosting The group will have membership that broadly includes network providers. These may include private, public, federal, commercial or other networks that consider themselves providers of Internet services. However the representatives attending this group should be prepared to engage in technical discussions. Membership should not be limited to North American participants though the general focus of the discussion should be from the NA networking point of view. Meetings will be hosted by participating network providers who volunteer to provide facilities. Merit Network Inc. will act as the convenor.
