All of the notes I have are completed. There are two notable omissions: 1. Jack Waters slides are not here. I don't have them. 2. Sean Doran's Transition slides are not here. They appeared to be cropped along one side. I have asked Sean to take a look, but I have not heard more. On Monday, I will package it all up for Merit to download for its permanent home up there. Until Merit does install them, they will remain avaialble at http://www.academ.com/nanog Thanks for all the kind words from many of you. Even more thanks to the presenters who made there slides available to me in machine readable format. This revision contains a new, complete Appendix B.*** The CERT Coordination Center has received reports of a serious security problem in the Berkeley Telnet clients that provide support for the experimental Telnet encryption option using the Kerberos V4 authentication. All known released versions of the BSD Telnet that support Kerberos V4 authentication and encryption are affected. We recommend that all sites that use encrypted telnet in conjunction with Kerberos V4 obtain a patch or upgraded version of Telnet according to the instructions in Section III below. As we receive additional information relating to this advisory, we will place it, along with any clarifications, in a CA-95:03a.README file. HWB, Backroom.udel.edu and one of its relatives still splice the Ether here, most of the time with LEDs dark, but they spring briefly to life once in a while when somebody yells "fuzzball!" The one at SDSC has apparently been overcome by Etheritis due massive load on the wire. Same thing happened at SURA. Dave

Hi, Many of you have been using the whois clients that permit you to query information in the PRDB. Whereas we are still completing the testing for generating consistent configurations for AS 690 from the RADB, the RADB is populated with all the information that the PRDB knows. Therefore, by Monday, March 6, 1995, when you issue a whois query for a network or a contact, the information that you will receive will come from the RADB. The whois client will return the same information if you query prdb.merit.edu or whois.ra.net. Many of the functions of the PRDB (including generation of router configurations for NSFNET) will be produced based on data from the Global Routing Registry. This change to the NSFNET Backbone service will involve the following changes: - The method for submitting new nets to be routed over AS690 will change. Instead of submitting a NACR to nsfnet-admin(a)merit.edu, you will need to submit a "route template" to auto-dbm(a)ra.net . - Additions and entries to the new registry will be made by the Home AS which creates the route for each net, rather than being submitted by a AS690 peer AS. - Most of the PRDB reports (listed above) will no longer be produced. Equivalent information for most of these reports is available from the global Routing Registry. These are major changes to the system. These changes are being made in order to migrate NSFNET customers and the global user community to a global Internet Routing Registry system, which will be more capable of supporting user needs after the termination of the NSFNET Backbone services in April 1995.
