FEMA requested the primary emergency alert broadcast stations be prepared to in case primary communications media fail. I assume this is just a standard precaution FEMA has built into their emergency response plan. Early morning network maintenance 4am EDT

There was a big bounce on Internet routes about 4am EDT this morning, several hours before the plane crashed into the World Trade Center. Where any major providers or carriers doing network maintenance this morning on the east coast? I'm trying to distinguish between network problems due to maintenance and the plane crash.

This is not operational, but relates to major network service staff. There is a report from senior management of one of Akamai's competitors that the President and several execs of Akamai were on one of the aircraft which crashed into the WTC.
