Hi, Sorry if this is a bit OT. Recently several different vendors (in completely different fields) where they white label for us asked us to remove A records that we have going to them and replace them with CNAME records. Is there anything *going around* in the security aranea that has caused this?

BGP Peers Data modeling schema

I'm designing a tool for provisioning configurations for an ITP and his Peers. The idea is that based on that, all the configs to all the involved components configurations to be deployed based on that source of data. I'm Talking about Routers, BMP, SNMP tool(Ex.: Zabbix), etc... But, once again, I'm feeling that I'm reinventing the wheel. I'm pretty sure that someone else has already suffered from that. I search for a bit, and I didn't find anything... But with this gray area between developers and network operators, I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right place. I even tried to look at http://schema.org but didn't find anything related to networks and BGP there yet. Verizon or Verizon Wireless contact

Looking for a contact with a clue at Verizon/Wireless who can help me with a problem, to wit, Verizon is blocking calls from our landline customers to one of their local wireless prefixes. We've got the error that the Verizon switch gives ("Welcome to Verizon your call can not be completed as dialed. Announcement for switch 3 0 dash 2.) Any publicly available numbers or tech support just leads me in circles. I figure if I keep at it long enough, I'll collect the whole set of their toll free numbers... but I'd prefer not to. Bird Router Appliance projects

I'm deploying some Linux based routers with BIRD as the routing daemon. -> Yep, Bird is a specific requirement for this project. But is taking me to much time to adjust(and in the future keep it running good) the basic like, sysctl adjustments for routing and performance on that, ssh/snmp and security tunning for that. So I'm looking for something a bit more "almost ready". I remembered BSRP(which has a recent release with support to Bird 2.0.7). But I'm looking for something in the Linux world. P.S.: Actually, I believe that what better describes my wishes would be: Something like Vyos or Danos, with all the complementary resources of a router like: SNMP, Netflow, SSH, Telnet, Interfaces/Address setting... Asus wifi AP re-writing DNS packets

Hello, Wondering anyone from Asus here or anyone who could connect me to the developers there? Using Asus RT-AC58U in Access Point(AP) mode and expect it to simply bridge wired with wireless but seems like it's re-writing DNS packets source as well as the destination. 1. DNS port 53 traffic going out, the source is re-written with the management IP of the AP on the LAN. So virtually all DNS traffic hits the router from the (management) IP of the Asus AP instead of real clients. 2. If I define DNS as x.x.x.x on DHCP, the Asus AP picks that up and re-writes destination to x.x.x.x and hence even if any client uses y.y.y.y, the packets are simply re-written. I see the rule in iptables on Asus AP. All these issues give an idea that someone created AP mode (besides regular routing mode) and missed to disable the DNS related NATing features in the AP mode. So far my discussions with their support have been going quite slow and would greatly appreciate if someone could connect me to right folks in there so they can release a firmware fix for it. Mellanox / Cumulus

Curious to hear if the community has had any real-world experience using Mellanox/Cumulus (nVidia) for L2/L3 things outside of the datacenter. Like other vendors, notably Arista, they seem to be trying to move out of the datacenter and target SPs and the layer 3 market. Personally, I think Arista has worked out most of the kinks over the last few years, and we've been happy with their L3 solutions (e.g., the 7280s) While Mellanox's chipset is intriguing, I get a sense of feature-itis from their marketing. (BGP, OSPF, NAT, we do it all etc.) No IS-IS support, I'm told ... Anybody using these in production in an SP environment? And if so, any opinions, good or bad?
