What is the current estimated diameter of the Internet? Maximum (worst-case) RTT edge-to-edge? Most public latency data is now edge-to-cloud, not edge-to-edge. Cloud engineers have done a great job, and edge-to-cloud less than 1-sec RTT. Anyone else see a lot of Internet traffic starting at 3 a.m. and continuing even now? Seems to be spiky tcp. -- -Aaron

While the sks-keyservers.net domain and many of the old hostnames that powered it are dead & gone, the actual SKS keyserver network does in fact live on, complete with new & improved DOS mitigations and active development of the underlying server software powering it, Hockeypuck. More information can be found @ https://spider.pgpkeys.eu/ & https://github.com/hockeypuck/hockeypuck respectively. Compiling RTG on EL9

Hello, I am just curious with the demise of EL7 if anyone else is working on trying to compile RTG for EL9. If you don't know what RTG is it's just an old SNMP poller/graph plotter that some networks have found useful in the past. If you've had any luck getting this recompiled in EL9 please let me know. I've kept it going from EL5-EL7 but I'm running into some wacky issues this time around. Off-list is definitely encouraged since I'm not sure anyone even knows what this is anymore. Thanks, -Drew

=================== 2025 ACM SIGMETRICS Call for Tutorials =================== June 9-13, 2025 Stony Brook University, New York, USA Overview ======== The 2025 ACM SIGMETRICS conference seeks tutorial proposals, which should provide clear and focused teaching material within the scope of the conference. The list of topics can be found under the conference call: https://www.sigmetrics.org/sigmetrics2025/call_for_papers.html Introductory tutorials (on key analytical tools, measurement methodologies, problem areas, etc.) as well as tutorials covering new and emerging topics that are of broad interest to students, academics, and practitioners are particularly encouraged. We will also be open to receiving proposals on the topics that are adjacent to the traditional focus of the conference. The length of tutorial can be 1.5 hours or 3 hours. The tutorial proposal should describe concisely the content, importance, and timeliness of the tutorial. It should contain the following sections: - Title of tutorial. - Preferred length (1.5 hours/3 hours). (Note: Final length will be determined based on received proposals and available slots.) - The name(s) of the tutorial lecturer(s). - Tutorial abstract. - Tutorial outline. If there is more than one speaker, the distribution of the tutorial content among the lecturers should be roughly described. - Importance and timeliness of the tutorial. - Biography for each tutorial lecturer (no more than 300 words per person, including previous lecture and tutorial experience). ALL speakers of an accepted proposal are expected to participate in conducting the tutorial. For collaborative work, only the contributors conducting the tutorial should be listed as “speakers”. An honorarium will be provided for each tutorial to at least cover the registration cost of a speaker. Lumen Duct\Conduit

I've come to the Internet because the Internet will correct anything incorrect one says. My assumption is that Lumen will not provide access (or sell the underlying asset) to their non-ILEC ducts or conduits in any circumstances. I'd love to be proven wrong, however. They have a route near me that does not go to any major metros, does not serve any enterprise, etc. It just connects some Frontier COs together, transporting DS3 over 15454s. Nearby they do have a modern network, so probably little to no long-term outlook for the legacy route. I heard a Lumen employee once say they're waiting for their last DS3 customer to leave the route. I'd love to lease (or buy) that asset, but my assumption is that there's a snowball's chance in hell of that happening. The lineage of that route as far as I can tell is: Lumen CenturyTel Digital Teleport Level 3 Genuity Midwest Fiber Optic Networks ... Interestingly enough, there are Illinois Bell Telephone manhole lids on their route (Frontier parallels them for a bit), but AT&T was never in this area, aside from Long Lines\Transmission. One time the 811 prints they sent over said AT&T and the 811 contact said their system labeled it as 3rd party duct.
