U.S. Government Accountability Office Broadband: National Strategy Needed to Guide Federal Efforts to Reduce Digital Divide GAO-22-104611 Published: May 31, 2022. Publicly Released: May 31, 2022. https://www.gao.gov/products/gao-22-104611 In its efforts to expand broadband access, the federal government has subsidized investment in rural areas that haven't attracted private investment. We identified over 100 federal programs—administered by 15 agencies—that could be used to expand access. However, the number of programs has led to a fragmented, overlapping patchwork of funding. We recommended synchronizing federal efforts with a national broadband strategy, and more. [...] Recommendations GAO is making three recommendations, including (1) that NTIA identify key statutory limitations to program alignment and develop legislative proposals as appropriate, and (2) that the Executive Office of the President develop and implement a national broadband strategy. NTIA agreed with our recommendations. The Executive Office of the President did not take a position on our recommendation.

Hello all, I'm tracking down an VPN issue for a user whose path to us crosses a Zayo router ( ae14.cs3.ord2.us.zip.zayo.com ) which is showing a crazy amount of packet loss in the 90% range. Google Fi IPs

Feel free to contact me off-list if your associated with Google Fi. I’m trying to narrow down some IP abuse that I believe is coming from Google Fi mobile devices. The IPs are all coming up as generic Google LLC in whois, and they dont have any reverse DNS. I’m trying to see how I can confirm that these are IPs related to the Google Fi service/network, or just random Google Clould IPs Here are some sample IPs: 35.187.133.202 35.187.133.204 35.187.133.200 34.116.22.76 34.116.22.74 34.116.22.72 107.178.194.231 107.178.194.233 107.178.194.235 107.178.193.10 107.178.193.12 Thanks John

Hi, We have published a revision of our IETF Internet-Draft "IPv6 Addressing Considerations". It is available at: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-gont-v6ops-ipv6-addressing-cons… It discusses a lot of practical considerations of IPv6 addressing, so we'd love to hear from you if there's any that we missed or that we got wrong. Abstract IPv6 addresses can differ in a number of properties, such as scope, stability, and intended usage type. This document analyzes the impact of these properties on aspects such as security, privacy, interoperability, and network operations, with the goal of providing guidance about IPv6 address usage. Additionally, it identifies challenges and gaps that currently prevent systems and applications from leveraging the increased flexibility and availability of IPv6 addresses. Thanks! Comcast: "Reloading Statics" today

Just a heads-up for the Comcast crew lurking here... I've had 3 different cable connections (Oregon and Washington State) go down in the last ~1.5 hours. Staff on-site have tried rebooting the modem with no success. When we call support, they say something along the lines of "huh, that's odd...your modem is online, but the statics aren't loaded". They then proceed to reload the statics and everything comes back up. The third time I commented to the support rep that this was my third call today and she replied that she had taken "several" calls about the same issue from other customers. Not sure if there's a new firmware update going our or what, but the issue appears to be on the Comcast end. -A
