[NANOG-announce] 2013 NANOG Committee Selections

NANOG Colleagues, The Board has completed the committee selection process for this year. For the Program Committee, we are pleased to announce the reappointments of Greg Hankins, Manish Karir, Michael Sinatra, and Tony Tauber, and the new appointments of Peter Hoose, Randy Neals, Matthew Petach, and Steven Schecter for two-year terms. In addition, Paul Ebersman and Sean Kennedy have been appointed to one-year terms to fill the positions vacated by Dave Temkin and Ryan Donnelly on their election to the Board. For the Communications Committee, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Randy Epstein and Brad Raymo for two-year terms. And for the Development Committee, we are pleased to announce the two-year term appointment of Judy DeDois, Tim Parker, Michael Rascoe, and Valerie Wittkop to two-year terms, and Fearghas McKay to a one-year term to fill the position vacated by Jezzibell Gilmore on her election to the Board. REMINDER: Error messages should include parameters

Off the Yahoo MX discussion, just a reminder for those who write code: *Always* include the parameters in the error message; pronouns and implicit references are Evil, Bad and Wrong. The 30 seconds you take to add the actual name of what you can't find/talk to could save some sysadmin *weeks* (I am not making that up; something once took me weeks). Back in the day we only had room for about 4 digits--but there was a your-longevity-here-is-dependent-on-it binder for every run-unit that listed every error code in numerical order that gave a narrative description of what had failed AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT. Seems like the massive stores we have available now days that we could do at least as well.

Yahoo reporting "No MX or A Records" and bouncing emails

Greetings Programs, Yahoo is bouncing email that is being sent to a customer of mine with the error that no MX or A records were found for the domain. There is nothing wrong with the domain at all, which I have verified from multiple sources. Does anyone have any suggestions about who I can reach out to at Yahoo to get this matter resolved? I'm having a discussion with a small network in a part of the world where bandwidth is scarce and multiple DSL lines are often used for upstream links. The topic is policy-based routing, which is being described as "load balancing" where end-user traffic is assigned to a line according to source address. In my opinion the main problems with this are: - It's brittle, when a line fails, traffic doesn't re-route - None of the usual debugging tools work properly - Adding a new user is complicated because it has to be done in (at least) two places But I'm having a distinct lack of success locating rants and diatribes or even well-reasoned articles supporting this opinion.
