Dear NANOG Community, BGP prefix hijacking remains a problem for Internet routing, despite the (partial) use of RPKI or detection services. We would like to hear your opinions on BGP prefix hijacking (concerns, existing defenses, needs, etc.) that would help us research new defense mechanisms both for its detection and mitigation. Please help us by answering this short (< 10min, 21 questions) and anonymous survey. Survey URL: http://tinyurl.com/hijack-survey *** The survey *** This survey is part of a joint research effort by CAIDA (www.caida.org) and the ICS-FORTH (www.ics.forth.gr) research institute, to study (a) operator awareness of BGP prefix hijacking attacks/incidents, (b) presently used defenses against BGP prefix hijacking, (c) the willingness to adopt new defense mechanisms, and (d) reasons that may hinder the deployment of BGP prefix hijacking defenses. We expect the findings of this survey to increase the understanding of existing BGP hijacking defenses and the needs of network operators, as well as help us design and implement new defense mechanisms that we will present to the operator and scientific communities. Remote power cycle recommendations

I’m sure many here are familiar with or using/have used devices to remotely power cycle equipment. I’m considering a Dataprobe iBoot-G2 and am curious if you’ve had experience with it, or other recommendations. I only need one outlet to be remotely power cycle-able. I have one piece of equipment that is occasionally a little flaky and, well, you know the hassle. What do people recommend? There seem to be plenty out there which are more designed to auto-reboot when Internet connectivity is lost, aka remotely reboot the ‘ol cable modem for instance, but that’s not my scenario. Internet topology resources

Hi all, two quick questions: Is there any way to retrieve BGP data (e.g. table dumps, updates, ...) such that i.) the data is not already available in the RIPE RIS, Routeviews, PCH, Isolario, or BGPmon projects and ii.) it is not necessary to query a Looking Glass to death (e.g. get all neighbors, for each neighbor get all prefixes, for each prefix get all announcements)? Are there any traceroute (or related) projects that currently still make their data publically available except for MLAB, RIPE Atlas, Caida, the Bismark Projekt, the portolan project? In addition, if you know somebody that knows somebody (...) that probably might be capable of giving me access to an IXP Route Server dump, a set of traceroutes that is not published publically yet, or something related I would *really* appreciate if you could forward me the contact! :) All data is supposed to be used in a research context, more specific my master thesis, therefore I would also accept annonymized data as long as it still contains useful topology information. Slight recurring Packet Loss at Equinix Ashburn

Hi everyone, Apologies for the noise and feel-free to reply off-list. We have a transit link to Equinix Ashburn where we see regular 12-20% packet loss on "some" of the peers there. We are working with the transit partner and Equinix NOC for the past few days. I can provide graph and IPs off-list if needed but I just wanted to do a quick cursosy check if anyone else saw similar issues over the past two weeks. Thank you

Well, personally for me, I use secret registration because I was tired of all the spam I got. Spammers scrape whois data for email addresses. I not trying to hide my identity on the web, I just don't like spam. I'm not some dark evil force.
