NYC logistics issue

Due to a comedy of errors, I have a pallet of gear sitting in Elizabeth NJ that needs to get to the 9th floor of 60 Hudson by EOD Monday that can't seem to get delivered due to no company having a COI on file with the building. We did have UPS freight lined up to pick it up from the original shipper tonight and deliver it on Monday but there was an "issue" and the driver left without the pallet. Does have any contacts at courier companies that could possibly break down 600lbs of gear (48"x48"x44" pallet with 14 boxes ranging from 10 to 75lbs) at the warehouse and deliver it to the building? Any other suggestions for how to deal with this problem? Replies off-list are fine. Thanks in advance. -- Andy Brezinsky

In the years I dealt with him the highlights were a) the time he and crew loaded a 1783 Drum (Several thousand pounds, I think, and top-heavy) into a truck parked against the curb or a street that has a moderately radical slope. Rolling it off the lift gate they lost it and it slammed against the down-hill wall pretty sternly. The truck tilted a bit into the street light pole which made the pole whip, flinging the glass cover down on the truck. Activity eventually stopped with the truck leaning (and immobilized) against the pole. I don't remember the resolution. b) the time they Johnson-barred an 1110 CPU into an open hole in the raised floor. Seems like the ripped out a lot of floor before deciding the strategy was not working. Shipping bulk hardware via freight

I'm interested in talking with someone who has experience shipping hardware that has been pulled from a working environment. The assumption is that it would not use a normal carriers such as UPS of Fedex, but via private freight. Assuming that 20 x 1U switches and a handful of 10U chassis's were to be shipped, has anyone found a productive way to package them in something other than the boxes they come in? Cogent admits to QoSing down streaming

Cogent admits that while they were publicly complaining about other networks congesting links, they were using QoS to make the problem look worse. One of the problems in "tech" is most people do not realize tone is important, not just substance. There was - still is! - congestion in many places where consumers have one or at most two choice of providers. Even in places where there are two providers, both are frequently congested. Instead of discussing the fact there is no functioning market, no choice for the average end user, and how to fix it, we will now spend a ton of time arguing whether anything is wrong at all because Cogent did this. Wouldn't you rather be discussing whether 4 Mbps is really broadband? (Anyone else have flashbacks to "640K is enough for anyone!"?) Or how many people have more than one choice at 25 Mbps? Or whether a company with a terminating access monopoly can intentionally congest its edge to charge monopoly rents on the content providers their paying customers are trying to access? I know I would. Instead, we'll be talking about how things are not really bad, Cogent just made it look bad on purpose. The subtlety of "it _IS_ bad, Cogent just shifted some of the burden from VoIP to streaming" is not something that plays well in a 30 second sound bite, or at congressional hearings. It's enough to make one consider giving up the idea of having a functioning, useful Internet. -- TTFN, patrick
