IPV4 and IPV6 question

Greetings, <flame_suit_on> This may seem like a stupid question, but in IPV4 there are a few "reserved" bits which I've not seen used, but perhaps I am behind the times. With regard to these, what if one was to use such to delegate a second venue of IP space? In otherwords flip a bit in the flags reserved < http://www.networksorcery.com/enp/protocol/ip.htm#Flags > and now its considered IPV4.2 ... Would that not give a second range of IP address space to use? Granted there would be a ton of upgrades/updates to enable such, but sounds a little bit simplier than an IPV6 upgrade, maybe? I am on the fence regarding IPV6 as there have been many logical arguments pro and con regarding its deployment. I still have to wonder about these "reserved" bits, that seem never to be used, why not use them? Again perhaps I am behind the times and all of the bits are being used. Postel Network Operator's Scholarship 2010

[Sent to multiple lists; apologies for the duplicates] On behalf of the North American Network Operators' Group (NANOG) and the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), I would like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to the 2010 Postel Network Operator's Scholarship. The Postel Network Operator's Scholarship targets personnel from developing countries who are actively involved in Internet development, in any of the following roles: * Engineers (Network Builders) * Operational and Infrastructure Support Personnel * Educators and Trainers This is not a postgraduate fellowship or academic scholarship. Individuals may nominate themselves for the Scholarship via email or online form. The Scholarship will be awarded annually to a recipient selected by a committee comprising representatives from the NANOG Steering Committee and the ARIN Board of Trustees. The selection committee will "whimsically" select the annual recipient exclusively in response to the question: "What Would Jon Do?" if he were asked to select a recipient. The successful applicant will be provided with transportation to and from the NANOG and ARIN joint meeting 3-8 October 2010, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, and a reasonable (local host standard) allowance for food and accommodation. In addition, all fees for participation in both meetings' events will be waived. The final grant size is determined according to final costs and available funding. The chosen recipient will be advised at least 2 months prior to the fall meeting date. Applications from qualified individuals are now being accepted. The deadline for application is 1 June 2010, and the awardees will be informed by 3 July 2010. Earthlink Email Issues with new ARIN range

Hi, can someone that handles Earthlink blacklist/zombie settings please contact me off-list? we have a recently allocated ARIN /20 range, and all our clients allocated out of this are having issues emailing earthlink email accounts, our other ARIN ranges are fine. No luck through any other channels. thanks Martin

INVEA-TECH is a NetFlow kind of thing. Totally different; tells you completely different things about your network. If you want flows, there's LOTS of great products for flow monitoring, starting with Cisco and moving your way out through both open source and commercial products. But if you are considering Niksun, then flows are not what you're after. I have also had a briefing from Endace, down in Kiwi-land. They seem to think they are the bees knees when it comes to capture, but have a really confused message about where they are trying to go with that data. Lots of buzzwords, but I don't think they really understand the dimensions of the problem that they are adding.
