rACL vty and Juniper

Greeting, I am looking up some ACL rules and there are something i am not quite sure, I know on cisco router, applying rACL will protect the router itself, no transit traffic will hit the rACL rules or router RP. So i guess it is safe i assume rACL only take control and management plane traffic. But how about Line vty access-class command? Does it only take management plane traffic? Do i need this if i have rACL defined? and on Juniper router, does it have similar concept? i am only aware of the input filter on the lo0 interface. so there is nothing like rACL? Thanks FD

Recommendations for DDOS detection software?

Hello there, Does anyone have any recommendations for DDOS detection software which runs on Linux? We're currently testing out Network Probe: http://objectplanet.com/probe/ We've written some custom "top talkers" scripts to analyze tcpdump data, but we'd like a more elegant solution with some basic alarm functionality. Hello all, At our ISP operation, we are seeing increasing levels of traffic in our outgoing MTA's, presumably due to spammers abusing some of our subscribers' accounts. In fact, we are seeing connections from IPs outside of our network as many as ten times of that from inside IPs. Probably all of our customers are travelling abroad and sending back a lot of postcards, but just in case... ;-) So we are considering ways to further filter this traffic. We are evaluating implementation of MSA through port 587. However, we never did this and would like to know of others more knowledgeable of their experiences. The question is what best practices and stories do you guys have to share in this regard. Also please let me know if you need additional detail. thanks in advance, cl.

Reverse DNS Question

All: In the process of requesting a block of IP's for a client, ARIN requested that we list Reverse DNS Servers for the block. I've never done this before, nor have I ever thought it through. What is the purpose for this besides resolving name-based reverse lookups? Are there any definitive guides out there on how this works (besides the ARIN site)?
