Additional FCC outage reports filed recently. Although the normal FCC reporting regulation is 30,000 subscribers for 30 minutes, when circuits are damaged by fire the threshold is 1,000 lines. And when 9-1-1 service is affected, there is no lower threshold. There is a cable cut on average every 2.5 days. They didn't stop. According to MFN there is a cable cut south of Washington DC.

ticketing summary & OT plea - Crypto

Hi folks, Didn't receive that many responses on ticketing systems. Most people really disliked GNATS, few had used Jitterbug, and many had good experience with Request Tracker. I got the impression from the lack of response that most people's systems were custom-written. Request Tracker appears to have by far the most potential, from a going-forward perspective. Some people did say Remedy, and i'll be calling them today and adding an addendum to the summary for those users who care. I have an offtopic plea completely unrelated to the above item, though. Wired is reporting @ http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,46816,00.html that Judd Gregg, a Republican Senator from NH, called yesterday for a global prohibition on encryption products without backdoors for government surveillance. I'd like to urge the netops community, whom I have no other method to communicate to, to send some correspondence to your congresscritters on the issue. I'd like that correspondence to say that the idea of having backdoors in crypto is bad, but I know that some of you might disagree. As a side note, can anyone who has submitted correspondence to congress folks drop me a private line? I had a couple of questions. Thanks, Tim

Thank you for all your replys ! Sorry for the lack of more info . There are 12000s, with 12.0+ IOS , has one or more EBGP peers and 10+ IBGP . Customer gave us continuous ping and pinpoint this 60s thing . I think Chris Konger is right . We will put more memory and enable CEF on the line cards to see if its better . NYC recovery: vendor assistance

This is more systems than networking, but I thought I'd throw it out to see if we can get info on other vendors. Sun has apparently decided that they will ship replacement systems to any NYC customer who lost their infrastructure in the attacks on Tuesday without waiting for paperwork, POs, etc. Reputedly word from On High (Ed Zander). There are still some shipping delays, but they're working with the military transport program on real priority shipments via SunFed. If anyone (or given this list, anyone's customers) lost Sun systems and are having problems procuring replacements, try contacting Sun's sales force in NYC rather than VARs etc. and ask about that program. I don't have clear details on what hoops people are having to jump through but Sun is apparently trying to be as cooperative and proactive as possible once they know someone needs gear. I suspect other vendors are doing much the same; some posts from anyone aware of the status there would be useful, if anyone knows. -george william herbert gherbert(a)retro.com
