Hi All, Sorry to bother you all but I have a question that has many different answers and I would prefer an experts view rather than just mine. Overview, AS xyz (to protect the innocent) # xyz has many routes associated with it and these are places within the 'router bgp xyz' statement (1) # xyz also has PI address space for other companies (2) # xyz also provides transit for other companies with their own AS numbers (3) xyz run RR to the CPE that run EBGP for the none xyz PI -with AS number - (3) routes xyz only have 1 upstream - multiple router and connections to the other AS what I would like to know - and your opinions behind this - is it better to have an AS access path list (on our upstream conection) and then filter what you announce to xyz upstream or would you just pass the whole EBGP table to xyz upstream. xyz do filter what they acept from their customers - so reduced chance of getting a routing 'swamp' I would like to understand with the idea of route flapping, dampening etc. Richard Smith IP Network Services Manager Colt Telecom ********************************************************************** COLT Telecommunications Registered in England No. 2452736 Registered Office: Bishopsgate Court, 4 Norton Folgate, London E1 6DQ Tel. 020 7390 3900 This message is subject to and does not create or vary any contractual relationship between COLT Telecommunications, its subsidiaries or affiliates ("COLT") and you. anyone have full bgp table dumps o taken in a consistent fashion, AND o from a fairly-large isp vantage point, AND o relatively unfiltered, AND o daily or weekly, AND o going back five (well, how about three?) or more years? randy

Even i am interested in knowing the exact issue with using IGPs? What is the most common CE-PE route exchange behaviour now ... Static routes OR IGP OR BGP?? NANOG 22 update

So, the wireless stuff is working in the forum area. We're waiting for some parts to arrive, after which we should have wireless working in the restaurant, bar, and lobby area by later this evening. DHCP should be running later this evening as well. You've obviously not spent much time at their web-site. see http://www.new.net/help_isp_info.tp Especially, download their hints file. It looks like a root-zone to me.... BTW, I don't run theirs because it has some colliders with ORSC root zone. But, they are definitely TLDs. Visio == Internet prayer wheel?

I noticed something interesting about the visio discovery tool. When visio pings hosts it pads the icmp packets with: "surpassing power is from God and" essentially sending this message out over and over again. I checked it out apparently it's 2nd corinthians chapter 4 verse 7: "We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that the all-surpassing power is from God and not from us." is Microsoft trying to tell us something?

NANOG 22 Scottsdale Update

Hello Folks, Here's the final update for those of you headed out to Phoenix for NANOG: First, the weather: http://weather.centergate.com/dayall.html Bring bathing suits, suntan lotion, sunglasses, and hats. Our weather had been about 10 degrees above normal, although it has cooled off today. Real summer. Connectivity should be up and running by noon Saturday. Circuit is a DS3 via some interesting physical layer implementations. We'll have wireless running by the afternoon, plus DHCP. If you want to open your ACLs to allow NANOG traffic, all the addresses are in 204.74.120.0/22 block. If you need a static address before the official help desk opens, ask any of the CenterGate workers for direction to the ip address czar. Terminal room should also be operational by 5pm Saturday. Loaner wireless cards will not be available until Sunday noon. Voelker and Stefan Savage Department of Computer Science and Engineering University of California, San Diego In this paper, we seek to answer a simple question: "How prevalent are denial-of-service attacks in the Internet today?". Our motivation is to understand quantitatively the nature of the current threat as well as to enable longer-term analyses of trends and recurring patterns of attacks. We present a new technique, called "backscatter analysis", that provides an estimate of worldwide denial-of-service activity. We use this approach on three week-long datasets to assess the number, duration and focus of attacks, and to characterize their behavior. During this period, we observe more than 12,000 attacks against more than 5,000 distinct targets, ranging from well known e-commerce companies such as Amazon and Hotmail to small foreign ISPs and dial-up connections. We believe that our work is the only publically available data quantifying denial-of-service activity in the Internet.
