Anyone know any more? Is it actually GBLX or were they riding someone else's fiber that was cut? Their NOC said they wouldn't know anything for another 30 minutes. ?? Our web site's outa commision. Thanks Global Center for your robust fault tolerant design. (Grrrrr.)

Also appears to be affecting our Global Crossing PRIs. So our dial-up network services are hosed. Word from Global Crossing is that this is a "catastrophic" level cut. Multiple OCXX circuits affected, most likely multiple carrier. Any other providers have confirmed circuits down yet? SIGCOMM & networking in Latin America

Hi folks: While I'm often reminded that network operators don't have time to read papers, much less write them, I thought I'd take a small risk and let you know about a new workshop. ACM SIGCOMM is kicking off a workshop on networking in Latin America -- it is a research workshop with a focus on the unique networking problems of Latin America (a far cry from the fiber rich networking diet we have here in the States). Also, speaking of papers -- if you haven't yet read Craig Labovitz's paper on BGP taking N-factorial messages to deal with a topology change, you'd probably find it of interest. QWEST had a problem around 11:30am PDT, and swaps facilities with several other providers so it may have impacted more than just Qwest. I haven't tracked down the specifics though, and it seems like things have since settled down.
