Call for Committee Member Nominations I would like to remind everyone about some important dates for the NANOG Governance and 2013 Election Process: * September 13, 2013: the nomination process for NANOG Committee Candidates begins. * September 20, 2013: the nomination process for the NANOG Board of Directors closes. * September 20, 2013: the final version of proposed Bylaws changes will be posted. The NANOG Program Committee is a group of sixteen individuals from the NANOG community who together are responsible for the solicitation and selection of material for NANOG meeting programs. The NANOG Development Committee is a group of individuals from the NANOG community who together are responsible for the development and solicitation of NANOG sponsorship programs. The Communications Committee is a group of individuals from the NANOG community who together are responsible for the oversight of NANOG's mailing lists and social media sites. Per the NANOG bylaws, appointed Committee members serve a two-year term. To be eligible for appointment, an individual must have attended one NANOG conference within the prior calendar year (12 months) and be a member in good standing. Candidates should have a broad technical knowledge of Internet operations and be familiar with NANOG meetings. Having constructive opinions and ideas about how NANOG meetings might be improved is of high value. A willingness to recruit presentations, sponsors, and active conversation for each meeting is required. The NANOG Board of Directors is a group of six elected members, ex-officio Committee Chairs, and NANOG's Executive Director. The Board of Directors works closely with the Committee Chairs to promote, support, and improve NANOG. The Board is responsible for the selection of the Program Committee, the Communications Committee, and the Development Committee. The Board is responsible to the members, ensuring that the NANOG organization remains, open, relevant, useful, and financially sound. To ensure continuity on the Board, three elected seats out of six become open each year due to the expiration of 2-year terms. How do you Nominate? You can self-nominate. If you care about NANOG's governance and want to take a turn at volunteering your time and expertise to help make it better: 1. Make sure you are a NANOG member in good standing 2. Submit your Declaration of Candidacy to elections(a)nanog.org. You can nominate others: 1. Send their contact information to elections(a)nanog.org 2. If they accept the nomination, they will be asked to become a NANOG member in good standing 3. They will have to submit their Declaration of Candidacy to elections(a)nanog.org. NANOG Community, I hope everyone enjoyed New Orleans as much as I did! It's truly one of my favorite cities in the world. Fresh off a great meeting, we're already starting to get ready for NANOG 59 in Phoenix. If you have a topic you'd like to speak about, the program committee would love to consider it. Please watch http://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog59/callforpresentations for more information. After considering feedback from members, speakers, ARIN, and sponsors we have decided to make a small tweak to the program timing at NANOG 59. We will continue with the Monday-Wednesday format, however we will move the ARIN Track and Tutorials to Tuesday morning, highlighting their importance to the program. The program will begin on Monday morning at 10:00AM followed by our popular Newcomers Lunch. Hello NANOGers! This message is to encourage you, as a participant of this community, to become NANOG members and to consider standing for a leadership position at our upcoming October elections. The call for Board members nominations will be from August 9 to September 20 and for committee members from September 12 to October 8. We wanted to provide you now with the election process preview. It’s posted at http://www.nanog.org/governance/elections/2013 and we’ll make announcements at every step. Why should you become a NANOG member? One Member = One Voter = One Eligible Candidate Candidate and Voter eligibility are opened to every ‘member in good standing’. You may never have attended a conference but as an active reader and poster on our mailing lists, you contribute to the knowledge of this community. 2013 Postel Scholarship Announcement

On behalf of the North American Network Operators' Group (NANOG) and the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), we would like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to the 2013 Postel <http://nanog.org/resources/scholarships/postel>Network Operator's Scholarship <http://nanog.org/resources/scholarships/postel>. The Postel Network Operator's Scholarship targets personnel from developing countries who are actively involved in Internet development, in any of the following roles: - Engineers (Network Builders) - Operational and Infrastructure Support Personnel - Educators and Trainers This is not a postgraduate fellowship or academic scholarship. Individuals may nominate themselves for the Scholarship via email. The Scholarship will be awarded annually to a recipient selected by a committee comprising representatives from the NANOG Board of Directors and the ARIN Board of Trustees. The selection committee will "whimsically" select the annual recipient exclusively in response to the question: "What Would Jon<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Postel>Do?" if he were asked to select a recipient. The successful applicant will be provided with transportation to and from the NANOG and ARIN joint meeting October 7-11, 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, and a reasonable (local host standard) allowance for food and accommodation. In addition, all fees for participation in both meetings' events will be waived. The final grant size is determined according to final costs and available funding. The chosen recipient will be advised at least 2 months prior to the fall meeting date. Applications from qualified individuals are now being accepted. The deadline for application is June 7, 2013 and the awardees will be informed by July 19, 2013.
