2013 NANOG Committee Selections

NANOG Colleagues, The Board has completed the committee selection process for this year. For the Program Committee, we are pleased to announce the reappointments of Greg Hankins, Manish Karir, Michael Sinatra, and Tony Tauber, and the new appointments of Peter Hoose, Randy Neals, Matthew Petach, and Steven Schecter for two-year terms. In addition, Paul Ebersman and Sean Kennedy have been appointed to one-year terms to fill the positions vacated by Dave Temkin and Ryan Donnelly on their election to the Board. For the Communications Committee, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Randy Epstein and Brad Raymo for two-year terms. And for the Development Committee, we are pleased to announce the two-year term appointment of Judy DeDois, Tim Parker, Michael Rascoe, and Valerie Wittkop to two-year terms, and Fearghas McKay to a one-year term to fill the position vacated by Jezzibell Gilmore on her election to the Board. We also want to thank and recognize the contribution of Jim Cowie, Ryan Donnelly, Igor Gashinsky, Mohit Lad, Dave Temkin, and Dani Roisman for their service on the Program Committee, Valerie Wittkop and Webster Olson for their service on the Communications Committee, and Paul Ebersman and Jezzibell Gilmore for their service on the Development Committee. And finally, we want to thank everyone who volunteered as candidates for these committees for considering this important service to our community, and encourage them to try for the next selection cycle or to volunteer in another role. Greetings NANOG Colleagues, As usual for our October meetings, there has been a lot happening with our elections process, and there will be more announcements to come over the next few days. First, a huge thank you to our Executive Director, Betty Burke, our NANOG Secretariat, Florencia Dazzi, Anabel Martinez, Celia Clark-Worly, the Verilan Team, and our technical event coordinators Tim Pozar and Matt Peterson for a world-class event in Chandler. Elections Our annual election was held during NANOG 59. Ryan Donnelly, Jezzibell Gilmore, and Dave Temkin were each elected to two-year terms on the Board of Directors. All proposed amendments to our bylaws also passed, thank you! In addition, the Board appointed its officers for the coming year. Chair - Michael K. 2013 Election Announcement - Committee Member nominations begin this week!

Call for Committee Member Nominations I would like to remind everyone about some important dates for the NANOG Governance and 2013 Election Process: * September 13, 2013: the nomination process for NANOG Committee Candidates begins. * September 20, 2013: the nomination process for the NANOG Board of Directors closes. * September 20, 2013: the final version of proposed Bylaws changes will be posted. The NANOG Program Committee is a group of sixteen individuals from the NANOG community who together are responsible for the solicitation and selection of material for NANOG meeting programs. The NANOG Development Committee is a group of individuals from the NANOG community who together are responsible for the development and solicitation of NANOG sponsorship programs. The Communications Committee is a group of individuals from the NANOG community who together are responsible for the oversight of NANOG's mailing lists and social media sites. Per the NANOG bylaws, appointed Committee members serve a two-year term. To be eligible for appointment, an individual must have attended one NANOG conference within the prior calendar year (12 months) and be a member in good standing. Candidates should have a broad technical knowledge of Internet operations and be familiar with NANOG meetings. Having constructive opinions and ideas about how NANOG meetings might be improved is of high value. A willingness to recruit presentations, sponsors, and active conversation for each meeting is required. The NANOG Board of Directors is a group of six elected members, ex-officio Committee Chairs, and NANOG's Executive Director. The Board of Directors works closely with the Committee Chairs to promote, support, and improve NANOG. The Board is responsible for the selection of the Program Committee, the Communications Committee, and the Development Committee. The Board is responsible to the members, ensuring that the NANOG organization remains, open, relevant, useful, and financially sound. To ensure continuity on the Board, three elected seats out of six become open each year due to the expiration of 2-year terms. How do you Nominate? You can self-nominate. If you care about NANOG's governance and want to take a turn at volunteering your time and expertise to help make it better: 1. Make sure you are a NANOG member in good standing 2. Submit your Declaration of Candidacy to elections(a)nanog.org. You can nominate others: 1. Send their contact information to elections(a)nanog.org 2. If they accept the nomination, they will be asked to become a NANOG member in good standing 3. They will have to submit their Declaration of Candidacy to elections(a)nanog.org. NANOG Community, I hope everyone enjoyed New Orleans as much as I did! It's truly one of my favorite cities in the world. Fresh off a great meeting, we're already starting to get ready for NANOG 59 in Phoenix. If you have a topic you'd like to speak about, the program committee would love to consider it. After considering feedback from members, speakers, ARIN, and sponsors we have decided to make a small tweak to the program timing at NANOG 59. We will continue with the Monday-Wednesday format, however we will move the ARIN Track and Tutorials to Tuesday morning, highlighting their importance to the program. The program will begin on Monday morning at 10:00AM followed by our popular Newcomers Lunch.
