SCIX-STL Meeting in St Louis - Moving Forward

Good afternoon, Thank you for attending SCIX-STL Design Review meeting yesterday at the T-REX !! RECAP: A quick recap of our Smart City Internet Exchange - STL meeting: a). Fabric # 1 will generally be used for service provider and data center peering. b). Fabric #2 will be used for Smart City services, sensor networks, IoE, advanced security services, innovation districts and neighborhoods. c). SCIX-STL will have several Root nameservers, approximately 300 Top Level Domain nameservers, and other standard services for the exchange NEXT STEPS: We are currently accepting letters of intent from organizations interested in becoming founding participants of SCIX-STL. Your letter entitles you to participate in the SCIX-STL founders committee and complete development of the articles, bylaws, operating agreement and any other contracts. We are also looking for other participants or IX initiatives to join the exchange. If you, or another interested interested party would be interested to join please feel free to respond to this message. As of yesterday, we have two letters in hand and more on the way. We would also like to thank Bill Woodcock from PCH who did a great job of walking us through the issues related to the history, design, operation, maintenance and governance issues central to the success of IX's around the globe. Greetings NANOG Folks, The last two NANOG meetings (San Francisco and Montreal) set records for attendance and we hope and expect the trend of strong attendance numbers to continue for the NANOG 66 meeting February 8-10, 2016 in San Diego, CA which will be hosted by IIX, Inc. Submitter enters Abstract (and draft slides if possible) in Program Committee Site <https://pc.nanog.org/>. 1. Any time following Call for Presentations and before deadline for Abstracts 2. PC performs initial review and assigns a “Shepherd” to help develop the submission. 1. Within about 2-3 weeks 3. Submitter develops draft slides (minimally showing proposed outline and level of detail). 1. Please submit initial draft slides before published deadline for slides 2. Panels and Track submissions should provide topic list and intended/confirmed participants 4. PC reviews slides and iteratively works with Submitter to help develop topic. 5. Hello NANOG members! We are once again approaching the annual NANOG election and appointment time. In addition to the "call for nominations" message at the opening of the process, the following is an overview and timeline of the actual election process. We encourage those in the community who are not currently NANOG members to consider becoming members of NANOG and to consider standing for a position in our leadership. Through membership and voting, you will be an active participant in directing all NANOG activities. 2015 Postel Scholarship Announcement

Colleagues, On behalf of the North American Network Operators' Group (NANOG) and the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), I would like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to the 2015 Postel Network Operator's Scholarship. The Postel Network Operator's Scholarship targets personnel from developing countries who are actively involved in Internet development, in any of the following roles: - Engineers (Network Builders) - Operational and Infrastructure Support Personnel - Educators and Trainers This is not a postgraduate fellowship or academic scholarship. Individuals may nominate themselves for the Scholarship via email or online form. The Scholarship will be awarded annually to a recipient selected by a committee comprising representatives from the NANOG Board of Directors and the ARIN Board of Trustees. The selection committee will "whimsically" select the annual recipient exclusively in response to the question: "What Would Jon Do?" if he were asked to select a recipient. The successful applicant will be provided with transportation to and from the NANOG and ARIN joint meeting October 5-9, 2015, in Montreal, Quebec Canada, and a reasonable (local host standard) allowance for food and accommodation. In addition, all fees for participation in both meetings' events will be waived. The final grant size is determined according to final costs and available funding. The chosen recipient will be advised at least 2 months prior to the fall meeting date. Applications from qualified individuals are now being accepted. The deadline for application is July 31, and the awardees will be informed by August 10, 2015.
