Hi folks, While the train from the airport in Philly to the Loews Hotel on 12th and Market is usually the best way to approach City Center, this weekend it is closed for repairs. Apologies for the short notice but please plan to either take the bus or jump in a cab ($30ish) to reach the conference hotel. The good news is the weather is lovely and the various marches towards City Hall have been colorful experiences this afternoon. See y'all here soon! Cheers, -ren

Dear Fellow NANOG 53 Attendees, We're looking forward to seeing you in the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia! As Philly is my hometown, I hope that you're all as excited as I am to spend a few great days there. Please feel free to come see myself or ask any of our gracious hosts from Comcast for recommendations for things to see and do in the city! On behalf of the NANOG Committees, I'd like to invite you to NANOG 53's Newcomers Breakfast on Monday, October 10th, from 08:30am to 09:30am, in Washington A/B. Our breakfast will be sponsored by Google, who has generously agreed to feed all of us! (Please make sure you say 'Thank You' to them!) As either NANOG first-timer or registered attendee you are welcome to join us for this lively breakfast. As the lead for this session, it is my goal to get to know all of you, for you to get to know each other, and for you to learn a little about the NANOG organization, its structure, and key people. Being from Philly, I'd like to add that once it gets dark out, I'd highly recommend only using a taxi to travel between 30th St station and the hotel. Even though it's a short walk from the train station to the hotel or the hotel to evening events, I'd still travel by cab and not walk. Or try and walk in groups. Please leave laptops/bags at your hotel

Hi folks, The social this evening at Comcast Center - https://www.arin.net/participate/meetings/ARIN-XXVIII/social.html is open to registered NANOG and ARIN attendees. Please do wear your conference badge and leave all possible laptop cases or bags in your hotel room. The view from the 43rd floor is worth the trip over after the Community Meeting. It is easy walking distance from 12th & Market, around City Hall, to 17th & JFK Blvd. Walk towards the tall building that looks like a USB stick! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comcast_Center_%28Philadelphia%29 details a few other trivia facts about the TV wall, height, railroad tracks below the lobby area, etc. This is a casual dress event. A few folks asked if t-shirts and jeans are acceptable and the answer is yes. There are many venues to explore after the mixer on the path back to the conference hotel. DNSSEC troubleshooting tutorial

Hi, I am giving my DNSSEC troubleshooting tutorial on Sunday, 4pm-5:30pm in Commonwealth D. For those of you interested, you'll want to come with a laptop equipped with a working copy of dig. Most UN*X distributions (including most Linuxes) will have dig already installed. If not, you may need to install "bind-tools" or some similar package. The version that comes with a supported (i.e. recent) MacOS X should also be fine. For windows, you may need to install the BIND distribution for windows, unless you use cygwin or something similar, in which case, you'll need to install the proper package for whatever UNIX toolkit you use on your windows box. Also, I assume you know most of the basic DNSSEC concepts (like what an RRSIG is, what a DNSKEY is, etc.). If not, you're in luck, as Matt Larson will be giving his excellent introduction to DNSSEC tutorial in the same room from 1pm to 3:30pm--right before the DNSSEC troubleshooting tutorial. Restaurant Recommendations for Philly

As my friends used to call me "CFO" (Chief Food Officer) and I'm natively from Philadelphia, I figured I'd pass on some restaurant recommendations in the general area of the city for those that enjoy good food. I've been to a couple of these and am looking forward to checking out a couple more while I'm in town. Cheesesteak? Go to Jim's and skip the Pat's/Geno's silliness (IMO) -Dave http://www.thefarmandfisherman.com/ I haven’t been yet but the reviews are terrific. Might be BYO, not sure. Probably number 1 on my list of places that I need to check out. http://www.akitchenphilly.com/ Just opened, been here once and loved it. Getting great press, chef started Django and Tallulah’s Table. http://amadarestaurant.com/ http://tintorestaurant.com/ Love both of these places, both run by Jose Garces. Amada probably the tougher to get a reservation. Amada has several rooms, the front dining room is probably where you’d want to sit. At Tinto you’d want to make sure your table is not in the basement room. http://www.zahavrestaurant.com/ Great room, excellent food. But you probably have to be in the mood for the menu… http://www.barbuzzo.com/barbuzzo/ Love this place – one concern is that the dining room might be a little crammed. http://www.biboubyob.com/ A little off the beaten path in South Philly. Another one I’ve yet to get to but always listed as on the top restaurants in town. Also byo. http://www.vetriristorante.com/ Not been here either, always up there as one of the top restaurants in town. Possibly a bit stuffy, and likely the highest priced place on this list.

When I try it Yahoo! puts "4th and South" in Cypress Street, about 0.5 miles west-northwest of the actual location (see <http://bit.ly/rdhw2m>) As you say, Google does put it in the right location.
