Does anyone know if Verizon is using its LTE network to offer fixed wireless services? I know Sprint was working on WiMAX hardware with cisco but I assume that was canceled when Sprint started moving to LTE. Cheers Ryan

Anycast provider for SMTP?

I have a mail system where there are two MX hosts, one in the US and one in Europe. Both have a DNS MX record metric of 10 so a bastardized round-robin takes place. This does not work so well when one site goes down. My solution will be to place a load balancer in a hosting site (virtual, of course) and have it provide HA. But what about HA for the LB? At first glance anycasting would seem to be a great idea but there is a problem of broken sessions when routes change. [ Tried this over on mailop; no response, so now trying here. ] I've noticed that one of my servers has been unable to establish port 25 connections to hosts such as mx00.emig.gmx.net for over a week...and I'm entirely puzzled as to why, since it only sends a trickle of traffic to a handful of users @gmx.net/@gmx.de etc. (They're on a couple of small, low-volume Mailman-managed lists, and have been for time periods ranging from "over a year" to "most of a decade" without any issues.) Some help figuring out why this is happening would be entirely welcome. Thanks, ---rsk

Ubiquiti Networks UniFi UAP-PRO Enterprise WiFi System - hard to recommend at this point. We saw people mention this brand here on the list - people like them. So what could we have set incorrectly ? They drop link and re-provision on their own at odd times day or night. We have completed everything tech support asked of us. (Really, lame emails they respond with as if they didn't read your text - they won't call and you can't call them). We used POE from ciscos - then changed to their POE provided. They didn't recommend it, but we plugged them all into APC UPSes..... no difference. They all re-provision at different times even when no one is connected or in the building at odd hours like 2am. Each one does this 2-3 times per 24 hour period. Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone know what we may have set incorrectly ? Is this normal - do people put up with the 2 mins the APs are unavailable about 3 times a day? (UniFi support acts like it's not a big issues.) We use the UniFi controller on mac os x. We use their EdgeMax Edge Router. All the latest software in everything UniFi. Thank You Bob Evans

By now, most of you will have read about the massive federal data breach at the U.S. Government's Office of Personnel Management (OPM), and also the fact that (by OPM's own preliminary estimates) this massive data breach affects at least four million federal government employees... but perhaps as many as 14 million current and former employees. However as this story is still evolving, even as we speak, you may perhaps not be familiar with the following additional important facts that have just come out: *) In addition to ordinary government personel records, including the usual kinds of frequently-hacked personal information (e.g. social security numbers), an as-yet undetermined number of highly detailed 127-page government security clearance forms (SF86) containing vast and intimate details of virtually every aspect of the lives of essentially EVERYONE who has applied for or been granted a government security clearance at any time within THE PAST 30 YEARS have also been hacked/leaked. (Experts seem to agree that this security clearance data constitutes and absolute gold mine and treasure trove of information for foreign intelligence services, opening up vast possibilities for phishing, blackmail, and on and on.) *) The Director of the Office of Personnel Management, Ms. Katherine Archueta was warned, repeatedly, and over several years, by her own department's Inspector General (IG) that many of OPM's systems were insecure and should be taken out of service. Nontheless, as reveled during congressional testimony yesterday, she overruled and ignored this advice and kept the systems online. Given the above facts, I've just started a new Whitehouse Petition, asking that the director of OPM, Ms. Archueta, be fired for gross incompetence. I _do_ understand that the likelihood of anyone ever getting fired for incompetence anywhere within the Washington D.C. Beltway is very much of a long shot, based on history, but I nontheless feel that as a U.S. citizen and taxpayer, I at least want to make my opinion of this matter known to The Powers That Be. I *really* would like some help from members of this list on this endeavor.
