The report is split into sections: 0) General Status List the route table history for the last week, list any possibly bogus routes seen and give some status on ASes. 1) Gains by aggregating at the origin AS level This lists the "Top 30" players who if they decided to aggregate their announced classful prefixes at the origin AS level could make a significant difference in the reduction of the current size of the Internet routing table. This calculation does not take into account the inclusion of holes when forming an aggregate so it is possible even larger reduction should be possible. 2) Weekly Delta A summary of the last weeks changes in terms of withdrawn and added routes. Please note that this is only a snapshot but does give some indication of ASes participating in CIDR. Clearly, it is generally a good thing to see a large amont of withdrawls. 3) Interesting aggregates Interesting here means not an aggregate made as a set of classful routes. I thought this list was related to Internet operations. I've been flamed at least 5 times now regarding the post re: whois? Is InterNIC availability not an operational issue? The reference to the text I clipped included an NFS timeout. This was not mine, it was theirs. Anyone deployed FlexCAP2 ADSL?

Has anyone on this list deplyed an ADSL network using Westell's FlexCAP2 product? I have some network engineers telling me that they need to use an entire /29 of 8 IP addresses for each single subscriber connection. This doesn't seem right to me and I'd love to talk with someone who has actually deployed this stuff.. The ADSL component basically provides an Ethernet bridge between the subscriber and the CO. The network engineers that I am dealing with tell me that these bridged Ethernet connections have to go into a Catalyst 5500 switch in which each Ethernet port is on a separate VLAN in order to prevent neighbors from sniFfing each other's traffic. And because of the VLANs in the 5500 with 2 RSMs, they need to allocate a block of 8 globally routable IP addresses in order to supply a subscriber with one globvally routable host connection. I'm still poring through manuals to see if there isn't some better way to do this that isn't so wasteful but I'm not as familiar with Cisco gear as some other brands. -- Michael Dillon - Internet & ISP Consulting http://www.memra.com - E-mail: michael(a)memra.com

VSNL is the sole International gateway for commercial ISPs in India. Private ISP services themselves are being sorted out as the ISP market is being liberalized. With the upcoming general elections next month, don't expect it to be sorted out. VSNL (also the public sector monopoly for all International phone calls from India) has several E1 connections through MCI. They also announce a few blocks through teleglobe->Uunet. I see robust connectivity to their Mumbai (Bombay) gateway with round trip ICMP times of ~600ms all the time. We monitor it for several of our India based customers. Last but not the least, the ernet folks (dig in. soa) have overseas connections independent of VSNL with UUnet and also eu.net. They offer dialup connections in Mumbai but not sure of the terms. Such assurances have come to us DEC employees already from the executives you speak of. I can't say "don't worry," but I can say we (Research and Advanced Development) are specifically of great interest to Compaq.
