I was on the phone & IRC with a gentleman from New Zealand just now. He has posted his status on http://y2k.win.co.nz/cgi-bin/y2k.cgi. He asked me to post some observations to NANOG because he is not on NANOG-post (and because the FGC conference call is rather useless with all that background noise due to people leaving their speaker phones on without mute - but it would have been nice, thanx for trying Alan). He says that the Internet operated pretty much without a flaw, although utilization probably went up more than normal. :) However, the phone system is almost completely useless. He has two phones in his office and cannot call one from the other. (Although he says they are on different exchanges, so they might not hit the same CO.) Dial tone is there, but after dialing numbers, just dead air. Which is weird, because when I called him it rang and he picked up, no static or anything. (We do have a switch in NZ, but we have to ride the local PTT to the destination phone.) This is causing unusual failure modes for some systems, especially ISDN routers which are common in .nz and .au. Confirmed. 'show ntp status' was showing master (USNO) in desync; now that NTP resynced, the dot disapparead. May be USNO has become a bit overloaded with NTP requests soon after the roll-over. We rolled over 1h35m ago. Rollover saw (locally) two of the four mobile networks drop the users in the room with me (ie they saw coverage totally drop). However, the other two networks: Orange & One2One were fine, with users being able to make and receive calls fine. Attempting to call from Orange -> {Cellnet | Vodafone} received either line busy or network busy. BT was alternating between telephone network being busy and being able to connect a call. However, a dialtone was given instantly. There seems to be no obvious network problems here, and all hardware is fine. CERT/CC reports Y2K incident

CERT/CC has posted on their public web page, they have one report of a Y2K incident. Has anyone heard any public information what happened for it to be classified as a Y2K incident, as opposed to one of the typical CERT categories (i.e. DoS, probe, intrusion, etc). I'm asking, because as you know, CERT/CC is always very closed-mouth about the specifics of any incident. But sometimes someone knows a bit of public information about an incident. Nevertheless, I expect Randy to ask why I didn't ask CERT/CC.

It seems someone at USA.NET is attempting to change multiple domains to them. USA.NET has gone home, Freedomains.net has also. I know that NSI runs an 7x24 shop, but I can't find the number on the web site, etc. Thanks in advance jmbrown
