Doesn't matter where they are in the world, as long as the purpose is consistent with our charter, which is to benefit amateur digital radio and related development. That's a worldwide activity. I suppose US legal restrictions on dealing with certain "pariah" countries might come into play (e.g., North Korea) but that's a very short list and there isn't much ham radio in them anyway. We're already thinking about things like: Educational grants to students who are hams; Existing amateur radio 501(c)(3) organizations; Development of *freely available* technology: hardware, software, protocols, etc Field trials, demonstrations, pilot projects, educational outreach, etc; This list is NOT exhaustive by any means, and in fact we'll be looking for good ideas from anyone who has them. We want to be as transparent about this as possible. Again, though we might have been able to establish a *personal* property claim over network 44, we all quickly decided to not open that can of worms and instead sign everything over to the ARDC. Face it, given who we are we'd probably just spend the money on ham radio development ourselves. I didn't like the secrecy either, but it was necessary given the nature of the process. We are precluded by the terms of the sale from giving precise figures at this time, but suffice it to say that we (Brian, actually) worked *very* hard to get the best possible price. I am fully satisfied that he did. Everyone with any arguable legal property interest in 44/8 was fully informed and consented to give up that interest and have it benefit ham radio instead. I didn't even think twice about it. Remember, this is an IRS 501(c)(3) charity, which means there are strict rules on transparency, how money can be spent and how it must be accounted for. Tax returns and other documents are public information. One of the most important rules for a non-profit, which the IRS takes pretty seriously, is a prohibition on "self dealing". I personally approved the sale on two conditions: 1) The block wasn't being used by hams and had no viable prospect of being used by hams. [Editor's note: minor correction: 44.224.0.0/15 *was* in use as an unrouted internal network by a German ham radio society; they have been given a routable block of /15 and were in the process of renumbering to it.] 2) All of the proceeds went to a non-profit to benefit amateur digital development and related efforts. I am not an expert in the IP address market, but from everything I saw and heard I am fully satisfied that Brian did the best possible job in getting the best price for the /10 that was sold. It was explained to us that a /10 would be more than twice as valuable as two /11s or four /12s and so on, and this seemed perfectly logical to me. Remember, IPv4 addresses won't be valuable forever. IPv6 is developing slowly, but it *is* developing. I for one have long been interested in getting IPv6 much more widely used within amateur radio (as well as the larger Internet) as even the full 44/8 block was woefully inadequate for doing a lot of the things that could and should be done. 73, Phil

SHAKEN/STIR Robocall Summit - July 11 2019 at FCC

I don't think SHAKEN/STIR really addresses the root problems with spoofing phone numbers, anymore than any of the BGP proposals for spoofing IP addresses. Nevertheless, the FCC wants to be seen as doing something. So Chairman Pai is having a summit to show all the progress. On Thursday, July 11, 2019, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai will convene a summit focused on the industry’s implementation of SHAKEN/STIR, a caller ID authentication framework to combat illegal robocalls and caller ID spoofing. Chairman Pai expects major voice service providers to deploy the SHAKEN/STIR framework this year. Twitter security team?

Anyone on the list know how to contact the Twitter Security team? Seems the new update allows an attacker to modify other people's tweets. The "Hackerone" form for reporting a vulnerability is the wrong form and the "My account has been hacked" form is also the wrong form. The whole site has been compromised, I have evidence and can't contact anyone due to the lack of an appropriate form and the fact that the security@ email address doesn't work. Thanks!

Cisco wifi signal fluctuations

On Cisco wifi, we started seeing signal fluctuations since 1-2 months. The only change that was done to change windows user preference from 2.4 GHz Radio to 5 GHz radio through a windows group policy change. But this was done in response to the problem reported by certain users.We have lately discovered that some of the neighboring APs opt for same frequency band at 5.0 GHz and also at 2.4 GHz. Reboot of these APs have not helped to choose different frequency band by these APs.Channel assignment is set to be auto and we cannot change it to static though we are aware of definitive AP positions at all floors in campus. The reason being that the controller serves APAC and we do not know the definite / relative positions of different APs.The wireless survey conducted before (when there was no complaint on wifi) did show presence of co-channel interferences in certain areas, but SNR was seen to be very good in all areas of all the floors. For skype, we have call drop or call noisy complain from users across the three floors irrespective of if they are connected to wifi or LAN. We are using Cisco WLC 5520 controller. Colo in Africa

Hi Folks, I work for a Security Analytics org and we're looking to build a small POP in Africa. I am pretty clueless about the region so I was wondering if you could help guide me in the right direction for research? The challenges: 1. Network needs to be able to receive millions of small PPS (as opposed to serving smaller numbers of larger files). 2. Can't be cloud (need bare metal servers / colo). We use the full capacity of each server, all the time. 3. Must have good connectivity to most of the rest of Africa 4. We can initially only have one POP This is not like a normal website that we can just host on "any old provider", the requirements are very different. Is there a good location where we could either rent bare metal servers (something like Internap - preferred) or colocate servers within Africa that can serve most of the region? "Good" is defined as an area with stable connectivity and power, no legal restrictions on things like encryption, and good latency (sub 100ms) to the rest of Africa. Our two closest POPs are in Singapore and The Netherlands, so I'd like something closer to the middle that can serve the rest of Africa. Middle East will be deployed after Africa. Fiber providers - Englewood / Centennial Colorado

Hi all Just curious if you know of any fiber providers other than CL or Zayo in the Englewood/Centennial area. Having a really tough time finding routes that avoid the Solarium at Quebec / E Orchard as well as 910 15th St. Seems there are so many single points of failure and collapsed routes that all lead to these two locations to get diverse long haul.
