Yup - on April 20th I passed my defense and I'll be walking May 15th. The committee agreed the dissertation was worth while, that is just four people, but I ain't complaining. Hi, I'm having trouble sending packets to AOL from the network 217.21.144.0/20. I've tried to contact AOL at the address "routepolicy(a)aol.net" which I found from the RADB database, but my email bounced! Because often a single infected machine could fill an access link, additional infections behind that same link didn't change the worm's overall scanning rate; this is unlike other, non-"bandwidth-limited" worms, and changes Slammer's growth to not be the usual exponential/logistic curve. See our paper on Slammer for more details: http://www.computer.org/security/v1n4/j4wea.htm We're now trying to explore that effect, which requires knowing what those bottleneck bandwidth rates were for sets of hosts behind a common bottleneck. looking for Slammer infectee access link speeds

With colleagues I'm working on Internet-scale modeling of Slammer's behavior. Its spreading dynamics significantly differed from those of most worms, an effect we're pretty sure is related to the fact that unlike most worms, an infected host's scanning often clogged the host's access link. To evaluate our hypothesis against our measured data, we then need to know what those access link rates were. We have a list of all of the infectees. I've appended the associated AS's (though it's almost shorter to instead list the AS's *not* infected :-). If one of these AS's is yours and you'd be willing to send us the corresponding access link speeds (ideally, as of January 2003, but if not, then today's will do), we'd very much appreciate it. Please send me a note and I'll give you the list of addresses for your AS(s). Any help in this regard much appreciated! Hi all. We're starting to take calls from users about an LSASS.EXE error causing XP to do the 60 seconds till forced reboot, and the normal blaster mitigation and turning on the ICF isn't fixing it. I've been able to reproduce it on one machine locally. Is anyone else seeing it? -Ejay
