We're having a ton of problems trying to find a part number for juniper rails (for an mx204) or even finding something that's compatible. I suppose we can just put the router on a rack mount shelf, but man... it's like pulling teeth to get this part number... Does anyone know of where I can find this part number? (no, our distributer can't find the part number, and communication problems with juniper tac is making them think that we're talking about the rack) nic

Wifi Calling Firewall Holes to Punch

Hey gang. We're setting up a unified wireless network for the students here, and to get around the issues with Nintendo and NAT we devoted a large chunk of public IP space to them. We're aware that this is causing issues with wifi calling on Verizon, TMo etc because it appears they initiate the SIP session inbound. Does anybody have a handy list of IP blocks and ports? T-Mobile had a decent page but other providers just said "open up 4500 and 500" and our ISO guys don't like that. Thanks if someone can help. John C. Verizon FIOS DNS contact?

Hi Folks, Is there a contact I could chat with regarding fios dns not resolving one of our domains correctly. DNS servers in question are 71.252.0.12 71.252.0.14 Those servers are doing the NXDOMAIN redirect(searchassistant) to a domain that does exist. Ping me offlist please. hey there, I recently have come across this http://ping.pe/ website, I have no association with this but it's pretty awesome. This made me wonder what other tools out there which I do not know about it. what are your favorite network troubleshooting tools? In addition to ping.pe, I like https://bgp.he.net but would love to hear your thought about other tool recommendations as especially the ones that are distributed. Mehmet

I thought I'd add a little data to my first response: To watch the network in real time with syslog, which puts messages in /var/log/router.log: tail -f /var/log/router.log | egrep -vi 'terms|I|do|not|want|to|see|SyncConfigOK|SaveConfigSucceeded|LogFile|etcetera|etcetera' To look for a problems on router1: grep -i router1 /var/log/router.log | egrep -vi 'terms|I|do|not|want|to|see' | less scott ps. it's free. no cost. low learning curve. easy and fast.

CPE and bufferbloat

Given the new stresses of teleworking on the infrastructure, have providers been getting more calls about "the internetz are slow"? And if so, can you attribute any of it to bufferbloat? Anecdotally, I once had to hunt down a problem where the network was slagged because a friend was downloading a big game and it took me like over an hour to figuring out what was going on. I got a new router and flashed openWRT and turned on the shaping and it went from really bad to pretty unnoticable. Most people are probably just going to contact the help desk. Of course anything in the upstream would have been even worse, which of course things like Zoom tickle heavily. Mike
