Hi, Considering: http://thyme.apnic.net Total number of prefixes smaller than registry allocations: 113220 !!!!! /20:17046 /21:16106 /22:20178 /23:21229 /24:126450 That is saying to me that a significant number of these smaller prefixes are due to de-aggregation of PA and not PI announcements. My question is - how can I construct a filter / route map that will filter out any more specific prefixes where a less specific one exists in the BGP table. If my above conclusion is correct a significant portion ~47% of the number of the prefixes in the table could be argued to be very unnecessary at one level or another. Is such a filter possible easily or would it have to be explicitly declared, any chance of a process the automatically tracks and publishes a list of offending specifics similar to Team Cymru's Bogon BGP feed. As a transit consumer - why would I want to carry all this cr*p in my routing table, I would still be getting a BGP route to the larger prefix anyway - let my transit feeds sort out which route they use & traffic engineering. Can someone from AS7018 contact me regarding a BGP problem? AS7018 is broadcasting a /24 that was assigned to a former customer of ours that no longer has authorization to use that space. That party assures me that they are no longer broadcasting that block from their equipment, however it's still showing up from 7018. Attempting AT&T's normal channels is going nowhere. Thanks.

The code, published over the weekend by researchers Adrian Pastor and Petko Petkov, exploits features in two technologies: The Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) protocol, which is used by many operating systems to make it easier for them to work with devices on a network; and Adobe Systems' Flash multimedia software. By tricking a victim into viewing a malicious Flash file, an attacker could use UPnP to change the primary DNS (Domain Name System) server used by the router to find other computers on the Internet. This would give the attacker a virtually undetectable way to redirect the victim to fake Web sites. For example, a victim with a compromised router could be taken to the attacker's Web server, even if he typed Citibank.com directly into the Web browser navigation bar. "The most malicious of all malicious things is to change the primary DNS server," the researchers wrote. "That will effectively turn the router and the network it controls into a zombie which the attacker can take advantage of whenever they feel like it." Because so many routers support UPnP, the researchers believe that "ninety nine percent of home routers are vulnerable to this attack." In fact, many other types of UPnP devices, such as printers, digital entertainment systems and cameras are also potentially at risk, they added in a Frequently Asked Questions Web page explaining their research. Cisco IP forwarding question

I have a customer that's trying to do something I've never seen before, and I'm trying to help him set it up. They have a 2811 set up with a VPN using a GRE tunnel. We have that up and running to the other end ok. However, the customer wants to control which RFC 1918 10.x space he assigns to each external destination within a larger NAT'd VPN, mostly using 10.x space. For example. From his 192.whatever network, he can ping 10.200.1.2, which is somewhere on the other end of the tunnel. He wants to be able to call that address something like 10.0.3.2 and have at least all of 10.0.3.0/24 map to a corresponding address that could be anywhere else in 10.whatever space (randomly). This way, the customer controls which of his clients is assigned which address from his end, even though they may vary wildly on the other side of the VPN. I assume this would take a static mapping/alias/forward for each IP. Any suggestions as to best do this appreciated. Thanks! James Smallacombe PlantageNet, Inc. OTOH, it the colletion of bits on the storage media is just 'data', not an executable program, the 9th Circuit interpretation of Title 17 stands, and such loading into RAM _is_ actionable copyright infringement. It is _possible_ -- but, to the best of my knowledge *UNTESTED* in court -- that 47 USC 230 (c) (1) immunity might apply to a caching 'upload server', since the content therein _is_ provided by "another information content provider' (the customer who uploaded it). I wouldn't want to bet on which prevails. Management pays the lawyers for that, *NOT* the operations people. <wry grin>
