TDM data analyzer

Hello fellow NANOGers. Slightly offtopic, but I would greatly appreciate your suggestions. For my telecommunications engineering degree I am designing a TDM data analyzer, and I need suggestion, what you would like in an appliance like that. Right now my idea is that it should be a transparent device that plugs in between two E1/T1/J1 devices and then connect to FastEthernet for data uplink. All data traveling between two devices is sent to central server that can accept data from one or more capture devices. End user (i.e. NANOGer debugging a problem) has a program to connect to data acquisition server and can see decoded Q921/Q931 signaling data and to play-out what's happening in any one of voice channels. BERT tester and signal level indication with remote fault monitoring and logging would be included also. End user will have ability to record voice data with supplemental information too. So my question to the community is what other features you would like to see in a device? And most of all - if you had a device like that would you find it useful? Actually he stated this to not be true in response to a thread I started on this list about this subject several years ago when I was complaining about Google causing IPv4 exhaustion due to people asking hosts, with some willing, to give them a bunch of IP's on different /24's for SEO purposes when there is no technical justification for it. We've had customers leave and go elsewhere after refusing to give them IP's they didn't need because they were convinced by some SEO 'expert' that they need a bunch of doorway sites on a variety of /24's. If someone is willing to leave their host over that, there are certainly going to be hosts willing to dish up IP's for SEO reasons, and the waste of addresses continues. David

subnet aggregation script

Does anyone know of a tool/script that can aggregate subnets feed to it via command line? Meaning if I give it multiple /30s (or any size subnet) it will scrunch them together. Example: #aggregate_subnets.script 192.168.0.0/30 192.168.0.4/30 10.0.0.16/29 10.0.0.24/29 #192.168.0.0/29 10.0.0.16/28 Thanks. West Coast U.S. interesting outage 21 Sept. ~1105h UTC

All, This morning around 0405h PDT there were several odd network outages around LA where packets simply stopped forwarding in several networks. I saw no circuit drops, however, several massive traffic drops. Thus far I have heard (unconfirmed) Telia had some kind of capacity drop / equipment failure and it has been fixed. Does anyone have any details on this and/or can confirm/deny this was a Telia outage? Multi-homed implementation and BGP convergence time

Hello - my company currently has two connections with a single tier 1 ISP. We are using the AS from our ISP at this time. In the next month we will be implementing a third connection with a second tier 1 ISP, so we will now be using our own AS number on all three routers. My question is when we implement the new connection and update our existing connections to use are own AS number, how much downtime will there be? So far the second ISP has only said that it could be hours for BGP to fully converge. We are looking for more detail about how long the outage will be and how widespread. Will it be relatively short to our customers that are on one of the ISPs we are directly connected to? Is downtime less for customers on other tier 1 ISPs versus tier 2, etc. ISPs? We will only be receiving a default route on each of the three connections. Our routers will be advertising a small number of routes - 6 to 8. Thank you. Andy Claybaugh
