Announcing BGP-SRx 0.3.0 service release

This is to announce the BGP Secure Router Extension (BGP-SRx) Version 0.3 Prototype Implementation. This release includes extensive performance and robustness improvements, multi router support, re-design/re-write of the Quagga integration, and many bug fixes. BGP-SRx is an open source reference implementation and research platform for investigating emerging BGP security extensions and supporting protocols. The BGP-SRx suite consists of three parts: (1) SRx Server, (2) SRx API, and (3) Quagga-SRx (which integrates the SRx API into the Quagga router). The focus is on origin validation, although it is designed to be extended to path validation. Stub functionality for path validation is included in this version. Additionally, this release contains an SRx client/server test harnesses and a simple RPKI validation cache simulator (VCS). The VCS allows to manually feed ROA information into BGP-SRx server using the RPKI to Router protocol (rfc6810) as well as WireShark modules for debugging. ICMP Redirect on Resolvers

Hello everybody, I have two DNS Server (resolver) running on FreeBSD 9.0, I always see in console messages like this: icmp redirect from 192.168.140.36: 192.168.179.80 => 192.168.140.254 and lots of messages like this, mostly ip addresses not belong to me, and some times these resolvers stop working. My question is what are these messages? why they only shown in console of these servers not others? And are they cause the problems like stopping working for server/services? Hello, There has been at least a 25% packet loss between hetzner.de and cox.net in the last couple of hours. Tried contacting hetzner.de, but they said it's not on their network. This has already happened a couple of days ago, too (strangely, on April 1), but then was good for the rest of the week -- no problems whatsoever. I wouldn't really care about this, if not for ssh: it just doesn't work on such huge loss. No other routes or networks seem affected. Fiber plant APC vs UPC... once again...

We are looking into doing cableTV/HFC distribution on campus, and fiber runs for HFC typically run APC connectors to avoid reflectance on the analog HFC signal where it is significant. We we're looking at converting some existing data UPC to APC for existing runs, and on the new ones either do a parallel split (UPC and APC) or just stay uniform (research seems to indicate APC is the winner). In asking some other groups (EDU LAN managers) I've heard both extremes... stick with all APC (and jumper APC-to-UPS on gear to data terminations), and I've heard the exact opposite (UPC is fine, just jumper UPC to APC at the terminations). The last time I asked here, the consensus seemed to be APC was ok, or else do parallel splits. My best understanding is that going APC across the board, and just using jumpers (APC to UPC) at the data ends should be fine, and I'm leaning in that direction. Are there any significant issues there? Do APC terminations "confuse" a data OTDR since you're now missing the expected reflections? Other issues? Before the RFQs go out on the fiber expansion, I'd like to have a clear goal in mind here :) Any reason NOT to go APC for the installed fiber plant and just adjust the terminating jumpers based on the endpoint targets? All: I am having some speedtest results that are difficult to interpret. I am a small WISP multi-homed with Cogent and Level 3 in Houston, TX. I am running BGP with each with 100 Mbps+ on each link. Some of my customers have begun complaining that they are not getting the proper speeds. They are using speedtest.net and/or speakeasy.net to test the results. My network is Mikrotik based and as such, I have access to Mikrotik's built-in bandwidth testing. With a laptop on site, running against speedtest.net (which kicked me over to the Comcast speedtest server instance) I can only get 4 Mbps up and 1.5 Mbps down. That is consistent on their desktops too. We eliminated their routing equipment and other consumers of the bandwidth and tested and got similar results. But when we run the Mikrotik bandwidth tests (even to off-net Mikrotik devices in Hawaii and Mission, TX) we get 25+ Mbps synchronous. We have run traceroutes to various traceroute servers and they go through Cogent and/or Level 3. For the most part it does not seem to matter which path it takes, the bandwidth seems to be about the same going both routes. When we run the laptop-based btest.exe against Mikrotik bandwidth test servers, the laptop got significantly better results (14 Mbps) , but not 25+ Mbps. It is almost like there is a Java based problem with speedtest.net. Thoughts? Thanks, Lorell Hathcock
