DNS resolver reaction to non-reachable authoritative DNS server

Hello there! I am trying to troubleshoot a case of DNS failure issue with one of Indian Govt's domain (nic.in). I can see that 1 out of 4 authoritative DNS server is IPv6 only. We have quite a few users running IPv4 only setup and hence 1/4 of these DNS servers are non-reachable from the recursor hosted by our clients. How is DNS query expected to respond in such case? Will it give SRVFAIL and terminate immediately (causing DNS resolution failure) OR it will just see one of the auth DNS as non-reachable and next will proceed with either of other three thus slowing down but with no failure? .org dns trouble?

Hi, Sorry if there's another list for this, but Im observing a strange problem with a .org domain. The domain doesn't expire till next year according to whois, although it does say Creation Date: 2009-06-22T22:56:30Z Updated Date: 2014-03-12T15:33:33Z Registry Expiry Date: 2015-06-22T22:56:30Z The registered nameservers for it are correct. Comcast DIA VoIP degradation

Has anyone been seeing voice degradation reports coming in from customers using Comcast DIA? We have several complaints that have came in the last week or so and the commonality is Comcast. Tracing out to the customer sites we are directly peered with L3 which drops the traffic straight into Comcast, we are picking up an additional 20-30ms or so once on Comcast but the latency varies quite a bit once in the Comcast network. Anyone on from Comcast available to talk offline? Regards, Nick
