Ransom DDoS attack - need help!

All, I've been a NANOG member for many years but I'm emailing from an anonymous account to reduce the chance of the attackers finding me. A company that shall remain anonymous has received a ransom DDoS note from a very well known group that has been in the news lately. Recently they've threatened to carry out a major DDoS attack if they are not paid by a deadline which is approaching. They've performed an attack of a smaller magnitude to prove that they're serious. Based on certain details that I can't reveal here, we believe the magnitude of the upcoming attack may be in the several hundred Gbps. I would really appreciate help in a few areas (primarily with certain provider contacts/intros) so we can execute our strategy (which I can't reveal here for obvious reasons). If you email me off-list with a name/email that you've previously used on-list, I will reply from my real email. Alternatively, if you can post your experiences on-list with large scale high profile ransom DDoS attacks, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks

Issue with Geolocation in Virginia US

Cellular backup connections

Hi All, I finally got around to setting up a cellular backup device in our new POP. I am currently testing with T-Mobile where the cell signal strength is at 80%. The connection is 4G. When SSH'ing in remotely the connection seems rather slow. Ping times seem to be all over the place (for instance now I am seeing: rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 174.142/336.792/555.574/99.599 ms) . Is that just cellular or is that more related to the provider and the location where I am? I could in theory test with VZ and ATT as well. With Verizon they charge $500.00 just to get a public IP and I want to avoid that if possible. Thanks and sorry in advance if this is off topic.

Our effort to get our new monitor transitioned to a public facing system ran into a wall for ~35 days. Unfortunately during that time, the visa of a visiting researcher leading that effort expired. We have almost recovered from all of that. Unfortunately, we have a bit of a bureaucracy to deploying public facing systems. So I would guess it will take ~end of March to get it on-line. residential/smb internet access in 2019 - help?

folks, I've been away from nanog for a long time - and away from the ISP world for longer. Looking at a house in a new area, at&t copper splice box out front, bellsouth fiber markers as well (yes, that's usually just passing by. but it's there). Owners since '82 said the telephone company was AT&T - but the New AT&T apparently no longer offers phone or internet service there. This is located in a semi-rural area between Ocala and Gainesville Florida (Micanopy, specifically). I knew the state of residential service was in sorry shape - but from what I'm reading, it seems to be worse than I'd though possible. Anyone have any suggestions for service options? I'm cool with dark fiber, if it comes down to that (and can be price sanely and terminated somewhere useful), but it seems like there -should- still be CLEC/DLECs or just plain resellers in business who still have access to resources that are in the ground. My business operates from home - so obviously quality service is a priority, and I'm willing to pay for it within reason. Business plans are certainly an option as well. I've confirmed with all of the known players via their front channels - att, windstream, centurylink, frontier, cox/comcast/spectre. Via backchannels I've confirmed that cox has fiber in the ground 1.4 miles away - straight shot down a dirt road (same one with the BS fiber markers). I have a lead on a couple of tower shots - but there's a big (for florida) ridge between us, and I might have to build 3-400ft to hit anything (speculatively). Anyone have local area or other knowledge that might be helpful? I'd hate to miss out on this house - it's a lot of things we love - but cell or sat only for internet access just isn't going to fly. thanks guys. ...david
