Has anyone gotten a "non-factory" firmware to go onto these guys? There are a couple threads on Google that are inconclusive. There are rumors that it's the same as a Dell something or an HP something else, but no one has outright said, "I loaded a Dell XXXX firmware onto it and solved all of the random ass bugs." If I didn't already have a couple of stacked Extreme x400s, I'd consider these at home, but they're somewhat buggy. Why the internal network delays, Gmail?

Help (and hi)! I work in higher education and we've been experiencing problems with Google delaying or queuing email for delivery to our domain. Here's some truncated email headers: ** Example 1: X-Received: by 10.237.55.65 with SMTP id i59mr10986018qtb.62.1472137448952; Thu, 25 Aug 2016 08:04:08 -0700 (PDT) Received: by mail-qt0-f175.google.com with SMTP id u25so27419242qtb.1 for <@***>; Thu, 25 Aug 2016 12:05:46 -0700 (PDT) ** Example 2: X-Received: by 10.36.1.75 with SMTP id 72mr5275579itk.40.1472130531887; Thu, 25 Aug 2016 06:08:51 -0700 (PDT) Received: by mail-it0-f48.google.com with SMTP id x131so289116132ite.0 for <@***>; Thu, 25 Aug 2016 11:50:42 -0700 (PDT) In both of these examples, these emails haven't even left Google's internal network yet; I'm getting blamed for these delays, however there is no delay in receiving these emails after they leave Google's network. Are other people having this same problem? Multi-port RFC2544/EtherSAM loopback appliance

Group, I'm looking for options and opinions on a cost effective, multi-port (6'ish port SFP/SFP+) RFC2544/EtherSAM rack appliance that can act as the remote/loopback for our field installers' portable RFC2544/EtherSAM enabled Exfo test sets. I came across XenaNetworks XenaCompact which looks like it would fit the bill, but I'm sure there are others (save Ixia, Exfo and Fluke, which I'm pretty much excluding by default because I imagine they are likely completely out to lunch on price relative to the extremely simplified feature set we require). BCP 38 coverage if top x providers ...

My google fu is failing me, but I believe there was a NANOG posting a year or two ago that mentioned that if the top x providers would implement BCP 38 then y% of the traffic (or Internet) would be de-spoofed. The point was that we don't even need everyone to implement BCP 38, but if the largest (transit?) providers did it, then UDP reflection attacks could be minimized. If someone can recall the key words in that posting and dig it up, that would be much appreciated. Frank

BGP Route Reflector - Route Server, Router, etc

Nanog, I am working on some network designs and am adding some additional routers to a BGP network. I'd like to build a plan of changing all of the existing routers over from full iBGP mesh to something more scalable (ie route reflection). Fortunately, I am also going to be able to decommission some older routers from the network and so shrinking the existing iBGP full mesh is something I am all too happy to spend time and energy on. For the purpose of this thread though, I am not really interested in the route reflector vs confederation discussion. In doing some research[1][2][3][4][5] I see a lot of discussions, config examples, etc on using route reflectors but most suggest picking a router, or more appropriately a set of routers, to become route reflectors within an ASN. I have not found many resources discussing using a non-router box as a route reflector (ie a device not necessarily in the forwarding path of the through traffic). I am thinking things like OpenBGPd and BIRD could make a good route reflector though they are most often discussed in the context of IXPs (ie eBGP sessions). I am wondering if people can point me in the direction to some good resource material on how to select a good BGP route reflector design. Should I just dust off some 7206VXR routers to act as route reflectors? Use a few existing live routers and just add the responsibility of being route reflectors, is there a performance hit? Install and run BIRD on new server hardware? Buy some newer purpose built routers (Cisco, Juniper, Brocade, etc) to act as route reflectors and add them to the iBGP topology? GNS3 running IOS on server hardware? Something else? How many reflectors should be implemented? Two? Four? What are the pros and cons of one design over another? On list or private off list replies would be great; I'd welcome real world experiences (especially any big gotchas or caveats people learned the hard way) as well as just links to previous discussions, PDFs, slideshows, etc. Heck even a good book suggestion that covers this topic would be appreciated. Hi All, I am planning to write a tool to detect real time BGP IP prefix hijacking. I am glad to know some of the open problems faced by providers/companies/community. I would like to know how the community is currently dealing and mitigating with such problems. It will be very helpful to know some of the adopted strategies by the community to detect bgp IP prefix hijacking and problems that are yet to be solved. BGP route processing speed

I am interested in measurements related to BGP route processing speed (i.e. routing engine capacity in terms of routes or updates processed per second). Folks from AMS-IX did an interesting study in 2012 in their Route Server / IXP environment. https://ams-ix.net/downloads/ams-ix-route-server-implementations-performanc… Are there other measurement studies available on this topic, especially in ISP/PE router scenarios, including BGP policy processing, best path selection, route filtering, etc.? DWDM Optics cheaper than CWDM Optics?

Hello, fs.com offers DWDM optics that are cheaper than CWDM optics: CWDM 80km 10G for 600$ http://www.fs.com/c/cisco-cwdm-sfp-plus-2425?70-80km DWDM 80km 10G for 420$ http://www.fs.com/c/cisco-dwdm-sfp-plus-2485?70-80km This is significant. Is this for real? Has anybody bought their DWDM optics? Going with DWDM and passive Mux/Demux seems to be cheaper nowadays than going with CWDM. Regards Karl

Netflow/sFlow generator for Linux with BGP support

Hi there I'm currently switching from MikroTik CCR 1009 to SuperMicro 5018D-FN8T as small router. Now I'd love to integrate BGP infos into netflow/sflow, as MikroTik still doesn't have any support for that. Are there any alternatives to nProbe (which supports BGP but is ways too expensive with its 300€)? Regards Patrick
