Juniper MX Sizing

I am wondering if anyone can provide their real world experience about sizing Juniper MX routers as it relates to BGP. I am needing a device that has a mix of layer 2 and 3 features, including MPLS, that will have a very low port count requirement that will primarily be used at a remote POP site to connect to the local IX as well as one or two full route transit providers. The MX104 has what I need from a physical standpoint and a data plane standpoint, as well as power consumption figures. My only concern is whether the REs have enough horsepower to churn through the convergence calculations at a rate that operators in this situation would find acceptable. I realize that 'acceptable' is a moving target so I would happily accept feedback from people using them as to how long it takes and their happiness with the product. For those of you that deem the MX104 unacceptable in this kind of role and moved up to the MX240, what RE did you elect to use? Netflix NOC? VPN Mismarked?

Hey, Per chance if someone @ Netflix could reach me off list? Seems that as of this weekend there's a number of our clients (residential internet) who are unable to utilize Netflix directly, instead being presented with a message advising them they're using a VPN service... common checks performed when passing on an IPv4 PA allocation from one end-customer to another

Hi, when one end-customer has been using for example /24 IPv4 allocation for a while and returns this(for example changes an ISP) to LIR, then are there some good practices before handing out this same /24 to a new customer? I guess LIR should: 1) remove all the DNS PTR records, classless of classful delegations 2) check if some of the IP addresses are in DNSBL(maybe the previous customer was a spammer). Arista optics

Hi everyone! I'm trying to get buy-in to go with Arista for some new infrastructure, but the Arista optics just aren't in the ballpark for us at "proof-of-concept" volume. In Cisco-land, we've had great success using Finisar optics, and they've been an easy "sell" to management since many Cisco optics are just rebranded Finisar's. The relevant Arista optics I'm looking at are QSFP-100G-LR4 and SFP-10G-LR. Does anybody know what supplier(s) manufacture these optics for Arista? Alternatively, does anyone have any experience using third-party comparable optics (especially the 100G) in the battlefield? Since optics sales are pretty cut-throat, I do ask that you disclose if you have a financial interest in any of your suggestions. Thanks! Alex Forster

Devices with only USB console port - Need a Console Server Solution

We have one of these nice new and fancy Cisco ASR920-24SZ, just realized it doesn't have an RJ45 Console port only USB. When we deploy devices at our pop we wire the console port to a terminal\console server, well that doesn't work for a usb console device. So what is everyone doing for out of band management via the console when it's a usb only device? Is there something I am missing? Is there a console server for USB? Team Cymru BGP bogon status ???

Starting around 7:17 am EST, we lost our IPv4 & IPv6 BGP connections to Cymru. We have two connections in both IPv4 and IPv6 on both of our two routers. On each router one connection is stuck in active, the other providing 0 prefixes. I can’t get to http://www.team-cymru.org from either work or home. Anyone know what’s up?

small automatic transfer switches

Does anyone have any recommendations for a small, cheap, reliable ATS? (I know, pick two, you can't have all three) I'm looking for something to power one or two 120V out-of-band network device(s) in each location with a single power supply each, much less than 10 amps total, with two 120v input cords. The primary input cord will go to the UPS and the other directly to a wall outlet to be able to access the UPS when if fails to turn on after the power returns :-) I found the usual suspects, APC, TrippLite, ServerTech, etc. but they are mostly 8 or more outlets and upwards of $300-$900 each. I also found this neat one, Zonit uATS, which is a small box that piggybacks onto the powered device's C14 input and has two power cords coming out of it. But it seems to cost just as much as the bigger ones...
