Big day for IPv6 - 1% native penetration

Hi, It seems that today is a "big day" for IPv6. It is the very first time when native IPv6 on google statistics (http://www.google.com/intl/en/ipv6/statistics.html) reached 1%. Some might say it is tremendous success after 16 years of deploying IPv6 :-) T.

Advance notice - H-root address change on December 1, 2015

This is advance notice that there is a scheduled change to the IP addresses for one of the authorities listed for the DNS root zone and the .ARPA TLD. The change is to H.ROOT-SERVERS.NET, which is administered by the U.S. Army Research Laboratory. The new IPv4 address for this authority is 198.97.190.53. The new IPv6 address for the authority is 2001:500:1::53. This change is anticipated to be implemented in the root zone on 1 December 2015, however the new addresses are operational now. They will replace the previous IP addresses of 128.63.2.53 and 2001:500:1::803f:235 (also previously known as AOS.BRL.MIL and AOS.ARL.ARMY.MIL) We encourage operators of DNS infrastructure to update any references to the old IP addresses and replace them with the new addresses. In particular, many DNS resolvers have a DNS root "hints" file. This should be updated with the new IP addresses. New hints files will be available at the following URLs once the change has been formally executed on December 1: http://www.internic.net/domain/named.root http://www.internic.net/domain/named.cache The old IPv4 address will continue to work for six months after the transition (until 1 June 2016), at which point it will be retired from service. The address will remain under the control of the Army Research Laboratory, never to be used again for DNS service. The old IPv6 address will continue to work indefinitely, but may ultimately be retired from service. Simultaneous to the retirement of the old address on June 1, 2016, the ASN for H-root will change from 13 to 1508. Broken IPV6 for Enterprise websites

The enterprise.com and enterprise.ca websites advertise AAAA records, but the web servers don't respond to IPV6 HTTP requests. I have tried to contacting Enterprise several times to correct, but I can't get thru their layers of customer service. I'm hoping that somebody on NANOG knows a technical contact at Enterprise. -- Clinton Work

Question re session hijacking in dual stack environments w/MacOS

Hey all, as we've slowly deployed IPv6 to our end users, it has begun to cause some issues for those on Mac's specifically. Apple apparently has an algorithm at some point in the network stack to decide whether IPv4 or IPv6 is, perhaps, 'better' or 'faster' at any given point in time during an ongoing session. This allows a computer talking to a dual stack remote website to flip flop between v4 and v6 as activity is conducted. Websites that require some type of authentication that is handled via session cookies have been booting our users out randomly with "your ip address has changed" type message. This occurs when their Mac decides to switch between protocols because the site views it as a session hijacking attempt when Joe User with session ID xyz switches from 192.0.2.10 to 2001:db8::1:1:a or vice versa. Has anyone run into this? Our users on other platforms don't seem to have this issue; linux and MS desktops seem to just use v6 if it's available and v4 if not. Thanks, David

IPv6 and Android auto conf

Hello everyone I recently got IPv6 working at home LAN. My Android device (Google Nexus 5) is connected via wifi to LAN and LAN's core router is Map2N <http://routerboard.com/RBmAP2n>. I have a /64 on the LAN with "advertise" enabled to make ND to work and have autoconfig working on all devices. There are bunch of other layer 2 devices in LAN but all just acting as layer 2 transparently and core L3 remains on Map2N. All works well for most part but only trouble I am getting is on Nexus 5 where after around 24hrs IPv6 stops working. Only unusual thing I notice at that time is that phone 4 IPv6 as opposed to 2 (autoconf and temporary randomised address). Seems like some kind of issue in way NDP works either on Microtik or phone. The fix I am doing from few days is to restart wifi and phone interface gets fresh (two) IPv6 addresses and all works well again. Anyone facing similar issue? (Note: No issues on OS X or iOS which are in same LAN) I can try DHCPv6 but I guess most of devices do not support it yet. (I see support for that in routerboard though). Had an idea the other day; we just need someone with a lot of cash (google, apple, etc) to buy Netflix and then make all new releases v6-only for the first 48 hours. I bet my lame Brighthouse and Fios service would be v6-enabled before the end of the following week lol. David

Quick Update on the North American BCOP Efforts

Hail NANOGers! After receiving several off-line inquiries about the status of BCOP in North America I think it's appropriate to send a general announcement here. The biggest news here is that the current NANOG Board of Directors has disbanded the NANOG BCOP Committee. The stated rationale for this decision can be found in the minutes from their 2 February 2015 meeting. https://www.nanog.org/sites/default/files/sites/default/files/BOD-BCOPMinut… As you might expect, I find this extremely disappointing. Our reaction has been twofold: 1) We're moving to a new home. You can now find all of the current documents at http://nabcop.org. Everything is moving forward, despite a bit of jostling. Please jump in and get involved! 2) I'm so disappointed by this decision, and the future course of NANOG implied, that I've decided to run for the NANOG Board of Directors.
