To me, that draft looks hugely complicated, like everything you could possibly think of was thrown in. FW: Updated ARIN allocation information

ARIN would like to share two items of information that may be of interest to the community. First, ARIN has recently begun to issue address space from its last contiguous /8, 104.0.0.0 /8. The minimum allocation size for this /8 will be a /24. You may wish to adjust any filters you have in place accordingly. More information on the IP address space administered by ARIN can be found on our web site at: https://www.arin.net/knowledge/ip_blocks.html Additionally, ARIN has placed 23.128.0.0/10 in its reserves in accordance with the policy "Dedicated IPv4 block to facilitate IPv6 Deployment" (NRPM 4.10). There have been no allocations made from this block as of yet, however, once we do begin issuing from this block, the minimum allocation size for this /10 will be a /28 and the maximum allocation size will be a /24. You may wish to adjust any filters you have in place accordingly. best practice for advertising peering fabric routes

I have a connection to a peering fabric and I'm not distributing the peering fabric routes into my network. I see three options 1. redistribute into my igp (OSPF) 2. configure ibgp and route them within that infrastructure. All the default routes go out through the POPs so iBGP would see packets destined for the peering fabric and route it that-a-way 3. leave it "as is", and let the outbound traffic go out my upstreams and the inbound traffic come back through the peering fabric Advantages and disadvantages, pros and cons? Recommendations? Experiences, good and bad? I have 5 POPs, 2 OSPF areas, and have not brought iBGP up between the POPs yet. That's another issue completely from a planning perspective. thanks Eric

BGP multihoming

Apologies for a RIPE question on NANOG, although I believe this issue will soon enough to be relevant for the ARIN region as well. I had a customer ask if we could provide him with BGP such that he could be multihomed. He already has 128 IP addresses from another ISP. Obviously a /25 is a non go for multihoming as everyone are going to ignore his route. I would then need to help him with acquiring a /24 PI. Which appears to be impossible as RIPE does no longer assign PI space and PI can not be reassigned and thus be bought. Is assigning a /24 from my own PA space for the purpose of BGP multihoming considered sufficient "need"? Could he get some PI from another region, such as ARIN? How does others handle this situation? Correct, The assumption is that NAT was in use here. After a quick phone conversation with Jared. We concluded that at least in the specific case I was speaking about, I was correct in that nothing was "Spoofed". However, Explained further in detail about what he sees from other IP's on that list. And it clicked when he pointed out how many times 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.1..etc. pop up as the src of the reply. I would like to know if anyone has seen one of these? If so where? Also if they don't exist why? It would seem to me that it would make it a lot easier to play mix and match with fiber in the DC if they did. Would be so hard to make the 1G SFPs faster (trying to be funny here not arrogant). -James

Level3 - Las Vegas - issues?

Are there anyone from Level3 here, who can tell me if there are issues with Level3 in Las Vegas area? We're hosted out of the Switch SuperNAP, and we're having high packet loss on two different Internet circuits. Question on DHCPv6 address assignment

Folks, I'm wondering about the following two aspects of different DHCPv6 implementations out there: 1) What's the pattern with which addresses are generated/assigned? Are they sequential (fc00::1, fc00::2, etc.)? Random? Something else? 2) What about their stability? Is there any intent/mechanism for them to be as "stable" as possible? Or is it usual for hosts to get a new address for each lease? P.S.: I understand this is likely to vary from one implementation to another... so please describe which implementation/version you're referring to. Thanks!
