How are you doing DHCPv6 ?

I am wondering how people out there are using DHCPv6 to handle assigning prefixes to end users. We have a requirement for it to be a redundant server that is centrally located. DHCPv6 will be relayed from each customer access segment. We have been looking at using ISC dhcpd, as that is what we use for v4. However, it currently does not support any redundancy. It also does not do very much useful logging for DHCPv6 requests. Certainly not enough to keep track of users and devices. So, my questions are: How are you doing DHCPv6 with Prefix Delegation? What software are you using? Blocking private AS

I am thinking about implementing a filter to block all traffic with private AS numbers in the path. I see quite a few in my table though so I am concerned I might block some legitimate traffic. In some cases, these are just prefixes with the private appended to the end but a few have the private as a transit. Is this a good idea or would I likely be blocking too much legitimate traffic? Network topology

Hi all I'm considering trying to come up with some means to automatically detect a networks topology and draw pretty pictures. This is somewhat boring though if a network isn't well arranged with VLANs and q-tag trunk routers and so on (It will just look like a big cloud of junk connected off an assumed switch). Is there any kind of cunning trick to detect standard layer2 switches along a path without stuff like STP?

What software solution do people use for inventory management for things like riser/conduit drawdown, fiber inventory, physical topology store, CLR/DLR, x-connect, contracts, port inventory, etc. Any experiences in integrating workflow into those packages for work orders, modeling, drawdown levels, etc. /vijay

Quad-A records in Network Solutions ?

Hello all, I just received a heads-up from a friend telling me that Network Solutions is unable/unwilling to configure AAAA's for .com/.net domains. He works for a large media outlet who will be enabling IPv6 on their sites for World IPv6 Launch Day. I hope it's just a misunderstanding. 1310nm optics over Corning LEAF G.655?

Anyone run 1000BASE-LX/10GBASE-LR 1310nm optics over a ~10km Corning LEAF G.655 span? I understand this fiber is not optimized for such usage, but what is the real-world behaviour? I'm having a hard time finding hard data. (Normal optics will be 1550nm and DWDM over ~40-100km spans.) -- Tim:>

Real world sflow vs netflow?

Can anyone on or off list give me some real world thoughts on sflow vs netflow for border routers? (multi-homed, BGP, straight v4 & v6 only for web hosting, no mpls, vpns, vlans, etc.) Finding it hard to decipher the vendor version of the answer to that question. We use netflow v9 currently but are considering hardware that would be sflow. We don't use it for billing purposes, mostly for spotting malicious remote hosts doing things like scans, spotting traffic such as weird ports in use in either direction that warrant further investigation, watching for ddos/dos destinations to act on mitigation, or investigating the nature of unusual levels of traffic on switch ports that set off alarms. I'm concerned things like port scans, etc. won't be picked up by the NMS if fed by sflow due to the sampling nature, or similar concern if 500 ssh connections by the same remote host are sampled as 1 connection, etc. Of course these concerns were put in my head by someone interested in me continuing to use equipment that happens to output netflow data, hence me wanting some real people answers. :-) Thanks!
