Perhaps my brevity got the better of me. I should have said something like "any thoughts on whether the migration of this 'news' into the 'mainstream' media will eventually result in some sort of y2k like 'panic' and will that 'panic', if it comes to pass, have operational impact?"

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone can direct me to information about WAN connectivity statistics. I'd like to get an idea of the typical frequency and length of outages, distribution (is it gaussian?) and any relevant confounding factors (routing stabilization times, network topology issues, etc.). Latency between GCI Anchorage and VZB in NY

All, I've been working diligently to improve performance of interactive applications (Citrix, terminal) that are run by users in our office located in Anchorage, and are served by a managed Internet connection provided by GCI. Our applications reside in the Buffalo, NY area. Via MTR, I've seen no or almost-no lost packets, whereas RTT averages around 124ms and at times is as high as 328ms. I'm looking for feedback from others regarding this RTT, hopefully from customers of GCI. 328ms RTT is high as far as I'm concerned, and it seems like this could be controlled a little better. If this is status quo for GCI->VZB/MCI connections, then I'd be interested in that feedback as well. Our BGP advertisement through you is not propagated to any routers that I can see, and test thru looking glass. Now, all our inbound traffic is traversing our least preferred connection. Cisco ASR

Anyone using ASRs? We are demoing one to possibly upgrade our 7206s. We are seeing what looks like a memory leak on the RP. Cisco is looking at it and says they haven't seen it before. I am wondering if anyone else has run across this. With the default 2G of memory the RP only had about 1% free memory, and the router was rebooting every 5 days or so when the RP ran out. We upgraded and now have about 60% free on the RP, but I still see the used memory incrementing at a pretty steady rate. We are running IOS-XE 12.2(33)XNF. The router is currently not even routing traffic, just acting as a BGP peer so it has one set of full tables. It seems to be a process on the Linux OS side that has the leak as the IOS memory commands show everything staying pretty static. so i went to get a looking glass going, and went to install lg (http://freshmeat.net/projects/lg/) on freebsd 8. it is perl insanity. among other cpan sikness, it wants to build an entire perl implementation of ssh, with 666 other library modules included when there is a perfectly fine ssh client on the machine. is there a decent looking glass package that does not fill my machine with trash? randy
