Network topology

Hi all I'm considering trying to come up with some means to automatically detect a networks topology and draw pretty pictures. This is somewhat boring though if a network isn't well arranged with VLANs and q-tag trunk routers and so on (It will just look like a big cloud of junk connected off an assumed switch). Is there any kind of cunning trick to detect standard layer2 switches along a path without stuff like STP?

Inventory and workflow management systems

What software solution do people use for inventory management for things like riser/conduit drawdown, fiber inventory, physical topology store, CLR/DLR, x-connect, contracts, port inventory, etc. Any experiences in integrating workflow into those packages for work orders, modeling, drawdown levels, etc. /vijay

Suresh, Yes, I guess my concern is close to the second meaning. It seems so simple. Currently annoucement of /24 seems to be okey, most upstream providers accept this. However I wonder if there is any ground rule based on any standard or official recommandation. If there is some standardized rule about prefix length to be annouced, I will make my bgp & IP allocation policy of each data center of my company, and I will be able to more fairly and squarely speak to my customer like this "You have to change your server's IP address if you want move your server to other place" chiyoung ============================================= Chi-Young Joung SAMSUNG NETWORKS Inc. Anomalies with AS13214 ?

We're getting cyclops[1] alerts that AS13214 is advertising itself as origin for all of our prefixes. Their anomaly report shows thousands of prefixes originating there. Anyone else seeing evidence of this or being affected? Because of your help, I could get many opinions and standards regarding IP allocation policy. by the way, in APNIC's IP allocation sizes policy, there is a comments like below. ISP best practices

To all, I am sure this has been asked 10 to the 1 millionth power times, however may be the rules have changed. I am looking to set up a really small ISP with a few /24's. I want to host DNS as well. Is there any whitepapers/howtos/best practices on setting up multihomed BGP and DNS with BIND so I don't blow up the Internet. Thx Philip

Issues through ATT core/backbone

We have a few circuits with ATT and a few VZ. Since friday we have seen serveral intermittent issues throught ATT to reach various customers and our various remote offices. If we swing the traffic through VZ interfaces using static routes we can reach those locations fine. We were doing traceroutes during the issue and we saw the traceroutes dying inside ATT network. I was wondering if any one else saw similar issues ? On friday we saw issue between ATT and GBLX peering point. We saw similar issue on tuesday. And another one today. We sent to ATT various traceroutes and opened a few tickets but didnt really get any kind of confirmation. The problem seems to remedy itself on its own after 10-30 minutes. Please chime in if any one else saw similar issues transiting through AT&T or global crossing.
