Hi everyone, I wonder which percentage is good level of CPU and Memory util of network equipment ? In my case, I try to keep under 30% cpu util and 70% memory util. My most equipment are Cisco product. I have no technical reference about that, it is just a rule of mine or my predecessor. Could you tell me how other operators are doing ? what is your operation baseline ? or is there any guideline about process utilization ? Automatic Switches?

I hate to interrupt the IPv6 and RFC 1918 mega-threads... Does anyone know of a company that makes 208v (3-wire line-line ground, no neutral, 208v loads only, single phase) 30-60 amp automatic transfer switches with sub-30ms switching time? APC used to make the SU045X163 30A model, but it seems to have been discontinued and it's hard to find products that support 208v single phase. ~Seth

Certain users will definitely require static address, just as they do for IPv4, and IMHO these should be handled in exactly the same way - the exact mechanism for which will vary from ISP to ISP. I've identified a packet loss problem (10-15%) between Qwest and Global Crossing. I'll explain. We are a small ISP on a very remote Island. We have a /22 from ARIN. We have a 20mbits pipe from ISP1 and 20mbits from ISP2. They are the only two we can get bandwidth. So we are stuck with ISP1 that doesn't support BGP. I don't consider IPv6 a popularity contest. It's about the motivation and the willingness to. Technical issues can be resolved if you and people around you are motivated to do so. I think there are some hard facts that need to be addressed when it comes to IPv6. Facts like 1. How do we migrate to a IPv6 stack on all servers and I am talking about the thousands of servers that exist on peoples network that run SaaS, Financial/Banking systems. 2. How do we make old applications speak IPv6? There are some old back-end systems that run core functions for many businesses out there that don't really have any upgrade path and I don't think people are thinking about this. >From a network perspective IPv6 adoption is just about doing it and executing with your fellow AS neighbors. The elephant in the room is the applications that ride on your network. From my experience IPv6 is unlikely to become popular until it fully supports NAT. Much as network providers love the thought of owning all of your address space, and ARIN of billing for it, and RFCs like 4864 of providing rhetorical but technically flawed arguments against it, the lack of NAT only pushes adoption of IPv6 further into the future. L3: Google from DC via the Netherlands?

Seems strange. Had a partial outage on Verizon network this morning around 9:50am EST, then when it came back around 10:05am, google routed via the Netherlands. My guess is that there's some sort of routing problem making my fastest or least cost route go to the Netherlands, but I wanted to find out if there was an ongoing issue, or if the Netherlands simply now serves the US East Coast for google. Isn't there anything closer? Or is this just indicative of an ongoing L3 outage? I'm guessing it's cheaper/faster to get to Google somewhere in the US, but maybe someone on NANOG knows better than I do. Seeking FIOS tech support with two (or more) brain cells

Hi folks, Does anyone know any kind of super-secret back door number for Verizon FIOS tech support for people-with-a-clue? I can hear the drool hitting the keyboard on the other end of the line and the confusion in the voice of the support rep when I try to get help with turning up a "business" (ha!) FIOS circuit with five static addresses on it. Things have sure gone downhill since they decided that a MOCA handoff was a good idea; I turned one of these up for another friend a year ago and it was 100% plug and chug... Before you flame me, yes, I tried the database on puck.nether.net to see if I could pull something off via that route, but no joy. -r
