NANOG 45 Lightning Talks Open

On behalf of the rest of the NANOG Program Committee, I'm pleased to announce that submissions for Lightning talks for NANOG 45 are open at: http://www.nanogpc.org/lightning/ Lightning talks are short presentations (no more than 10 minutes, including questions) of topics that are either too short, too timely or too preliminary to include on the general agenda. In the past, these have been some of the most popular presentations at NANOG, For this upcoming conference in Santo Domingo, we have lightning talk slots available on all three days. The Program Committee will pick the first three of these prior to the conference (by the end of next week, in fact), so please get your submissions in by Wed, 14 January for the best possible consideration. We already have several submissions, but would appreciate more, of course. Rest assured, however, that we will continue accepting lightnings talk proposals (and voting on them) through the conference, as timeliness is part of what makes lightning talks so great. Ethical DDoS drone network

Say for instance one wanted to create an "ethical botnet," how would this be done in a manner that is legal, non-abusive toward other networks, and unquestionably used for legitimate internal security purposes? How does your company approach this dilemma? Our company for instance has always relied on outside attacks to spot check our security and i'm beginning to think there may be a more user friendly alternative. question about BGP default routing

Hi all I have a question: I see very few prefixes in a routing table and combining the prefixes does not cover addresses space, for example, {78.41.184.0/21, 91.103.239.0/24, 91.103.232.0/22, 82.138.64.0/23, 91.103.232.0/21, 77.95.71.0/24} are all prefixes I observed from a BGP speaking router, I am just asking is this router using a default routing for all the other destinations? Thanks a lot

A team of security researchers and academics has broken a core piece of Internet technology. They made their work public at the 25th Chaos Communication Congress in Berlin today. The team was able to create a rogue certificate authority and use it to issue valid SSL certificates for any site they want.
