This subject has probably been talked to death, so I apologise in advance for bringing it up! Is there any DNS server currently availible that can reply to DNS lookups based on the source IP address? Yes, this would be for directing users to a 'local' server hosting www.example.org (or something similar). Yes, this is not the best way of doing it I know :-) I was wondering if there was something available that DID this yet. rbl for apnic ranges

Hi all, Recently there have been discussions on blackholing 211.* on mailboxes. Because I was sick and tired of the massive amount of spam (and non-responsive network admins) I decided to blackhole them too. Because 211.* also has a piece of .au in it, simply listing 211.0.0.0/8 was not an option for me. I decided to put up a list, based on ftp://ftp.apnic.net/pub/apnic/dbase/data/country-ipv4.lst which lists the allocations per country in the form of <countrycode>.rbl.cluecentral.net ie cn.rbl.cluecentral.net, and make it pubically available. You can check the list at http://www.cluecentral.net/rbl which is in the tinydns-data format and of course use it for black/whitelisting purposes. I'm in favor of using NAT only where there is a good argument for it and the customers are given the straight story about what they're buying and what it won't be able to do. The > NAT box may include a number of "fix-ups" but such will never > be equivalent to giving the customer a public address. well.. yes and no. depends on definition and how you set the services. i don't know how you treat this in u.s. but in europe gprs is mostly considered being a value-added service to gsm instead of a real internet connectivity replacement. if you think of gprs a bit it will never have enough capabilities to serve as a full-time inet service. it's a great solution for accessing your data remotely but it's very limited in means of capacity and then you have those 'pdp-contexts' or how they call it. it's just another acronym for a vpn... if a corporate user requires full ip connectivity then why not give him a vpn uplink directly to their hq and the users can safely use private addresses according to corporate policy. in this way gprs is very similar to mpls. i have worked on gprs-mpls vpn integration and it works just fine. > An Internet Service Provider gives the customer a full > connection to the Internet. i think the hydrofoil is probaly just to niagara-on-the-lake, which is a charming but much-too-english town in which one can buy the best jams in the known universe, and very decent fudge. niagara falls is considerably further inland (and moving further...). the hydrofoil is fun, but bring a seasick bag, and a windbreaker. Teleglobe and Equant Experiences?

I am currently evaluating some proposals from several vendors for an international IP-based network. Most of the technologies are the same, MLPS, and they can list routers brands and models, as well as give out network reliability and SLA numbers, so there is something to go on for technical matters. However, for the ones that I'm not too familiar with, it's really hard to guage things like customer service, billing, and their technical support responsiveness. The two providers who I've not had a lot of luck researching elsewhere are BCE Teleglobe and Equant. Does anyone have some opinions they'd like to share? Feel free to email me directly if you do not want to clog up the list or don't feel comfortable making certain remarks public. Thanks a lot. -- Crist J.
