A number of people have expressed concern about the amount of time that the second ATM NAP Workshop was to take up. Accordingly, we have decided to shorten it; it will run from 9:00 am until noon on Tues., Dec. 6. Place: Santa Cruz Room Hotel Sainte Claire 302 South Market Street San Jose, CA 95113 (a three-minute walk from the Fairmont) Time: Tuesday, December 6, 1994 9:00 - 12:00 There won't be time for the full agenda that we had planned. Therefore, the workshop will focus on status reports (from NAP operators, vendors, and NSPs) and on issues to be addressed in some future forum (TBD). Many of the functions of the PRDB (including generation of router configurations for NSFNET) will be produced based on data from the Global Routing Registry. This change to the NSFNET Backbone service will involve the following changes: - The method for submitting new nets to be routed over AS690 will change. Instead of submitting a NACR to nsfnet-admin(a)merit.edu, you will need to submit a "route template" to auto-dbm(a)radb.ra.net . - Additions and entries to the new registry will be made by the Home AS which creates the route for each net, rather than being submitted by a AS690 peer AS. - Most of the PRDB reports (listed above) will no longer be produced. Equivalent information for most of these reports is available from the global Routing Registry. These are major changes to the system. These changes are being made in order to migrate NSFNET customers and the global user community to a Global Routing Registry system, which will be more capable of supporting user needs after the termination of the NSFNET Backbone services in April 1995. Many of the functions of the PRDB (including generation of router configurations for NSFNET) will be produced based on data from the Global Routing Registry. This change to the NSFNET Backbone service will involve the following changes: - The method for submitting new nets to be routed over AS690 will change. Instead of submitting a NACR to nsfnet-admin(a)merit.edu, you will need to submit a "route template" to auto-dbm(a)radb.ra.net . - Additions and entries to the new registry will be made by the Home AS which creates the route for each net, rather than being submitted by a AS690 peer AS. - Most of the PRDB reports (listed above) will no longer be produced. Equivalent information for most of these reports is available from the global Routing Registry. These are major changes to the system. These changes are being made in order to migrate NSFNET customers and the global user community to a Global Routing Registry system, which will be more capable of supporting user needs after the termination of the NSFNET Backbone services in April 1995. Type "whois -h prdb.merit.edu help" for details. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRDB CHANGES: (Updated October 25, 1994) In early December 1994, as part of the transition to the new Global Routing Registry (GRR), the Policy Routing Database (PRDB) will be retired. Many of the functions of the PRDB (including generation of router configurations for NSFNET) will be produced based on data from the Global Routing Registry. This change to the NSFNET Backbone service will involve the following changes: - The method for submitting new nets to be routed over AS690 will change. Instead of submitting a NACR to nsfnet-admin(a)merit.edu, you will need to submit a "route template" to auto-dbm(a)radb.ra.net . - Additions and entries to the new registry will be made by the Home AS which creates the route for each net, rather than being submitted by a AS690 peer AS. - Most of the PRDB reports (listed above) will no longer be produced. Equivalent information for most of these reports is available from the global Routing Registry. These are major changes to the system. These changes are being made in order to migrate NSFNET customers and the global user community to a Global Routing Registry system, which will be more capable of supporting user needs after the termination of the NSFNET Backbone services in April 1995. US holiday - change in config window

Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 is the US holiday, Thanksgiving. We have rescheduled the normal Friday config window, to Thursday morning so that our configuration staff can give thanks also. The cutoff for requests for configuration changes or additions will be 09:00 EST on Wednesday, November 23.
