New bill out today as part of a larger set of broadband infrastructure bills, the result of some of the NANOG community's conversations with House staffers (and likely other 3rd parties influence): H.R. ____, “Promoting Exchanges for Enhanced Routing of Information So Networks are Great (PEERING) Act,” sponsored by Representative Billy Long (MO-07) • Internet Exchanges (or peering centers) are the physical locations where networks come together, and where content providers cache content closer to end users to increase speed and efficiency of networks. • The bill would authorize a matching a grant program through the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to promote peering centers where none exist, or to help an existing one expand if it is the only such facility in a core-based statistical area. • The bill would also authorize eligible recipients under the Universal Service Fund’s E-Rate program (schools and libraries) and Telehealth program to use such funds to contract with a broadband provider to obtain a connection to a peering facility, or to pay costs of maintaining a point of presence at a peering facility.

This committee is wholly responsible for the construction and curation of the program content that attendees experience at each of the three yearly NANOG conferences. Attacks from poneytelecom.eu

Hi All, Lately we have seen a lot of attacks from IPs where the PTR record ends in poneytelecom.eu to PBX systems. A quick search on twitter ( https://twitter.com/hashtag/poneytelecom) shows multiple people complaining that they reported the IP's yet nothing happens. Has anyone had the pleasure of dealing with them and have you gotten anywhere? I wonder if the only option is public shaming. I would rather not ban their AS as it may hurt legit traffic but I am out of ideas at this point.... TIA. Dovid

Any IP Transit provider currently offering BGP FlowSpec?

Hello, I'm looking for an IP Transit provider (in the Americas region preferrably) that provides BGP FlowSpec capabilities. I've found some that accept filtering rules at the IP Transit level but changes are done by support ticket, which is subpar to me. I must have autonomy to change rules at will. Comparison of freeware open source switch software?

I have seen numerous comparisons and RIPE presentations on performance issues of BIRD vs Quagga vs FRR. I am looking for the same thing for freeware switch software. Has anyone done a feature comparison between: http://openvswitch.org/ https://www.openswitch.net/ https://cumulusnetworks.com/products/cumulus-linux/ ...any other I am missing... I am familiar with: http://packetpushers.net/open-networking-cheat-sheet/ https://www.networkworld.com/article/2919599/cisco-subnet/clearing-the-fog-… so to clarify I am interested only in bare-metal or whitebox swicthes and freeware, open source software. Cisco switch recommendations

I’m currently using Cisco WS-4948-10GE switches on some of my sites. Since I need more than two 10-Gig ports the Cisco 4948s have reached end-of-life for me. The current Cisco 4948 switches are doing my OSPF and BGP routing, as well as some ACLs and actually work great for us…. I’m looking to replace the current switches with Cisco 3850-12XS switches (using the IP Services OS). Does anyone have experience with the Cisco 3850-12XS switches, in comparison to the WS-4948-10GE switches? Or other recommendations? Thanks JB
