In the Texas area, particularly, south central, Austin area... anyone know of any issues with Telia Internet today around 10:32 a.m. central time ? I had good bgp session and good route 0/0 from them, but little to no internet packets were flowing. -Aaron

Tierpoint abuse contact

Hi, I could really use some help reaching someone at Tierpoint for a spam problem coming from 216.27.63.177, 216.27.63.154, 216.27.63.196, and other addresses in that block. I've sent countless emails to their abuse contact with no response, had daily calls with their NOC (very polite, but ultimately unable to do more than take a message). It's been almost a month now, and while I don't like asking on NANOG, after emailing and calling for weeks, I'm out of other options. Any pointers would be very welcomed. David

Did I miss a problem: FCC and CISA stress need for access during pandemic

I have not heard of any problems with access for ISP and communications workers in any U.S. state or locality during the pandemic. Did I miss a big problem requiring the FCC chairman and CISA Director send a letter? https://www.fcc.gov/document/fcc-cisa-stress-need-communications-industry-a… Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Director Christopher Krebs today sent a letter to the nation’s governors encouraging them to provide necessary access and resources to the communications workers helping to keep Americans connected during the COVID-19 pandemic. [...] The letter includes these key points: - Highlights recent guidance from CISA related to the essential critical infrastructure workforce and 911 centers during the pandemic - Asks that certain communications industry entities and personnel be declared essential to the pandemic response and afforded all appropriate access and resources - Asks that states consider prioritizing the distribution of personal protective equipment to communications personnel when available - Underscores the role of various communications industry personnel to supporting consumers’ remote emergency communications needs - Encourages industry and government to work together to prioritize and complete communications infrastructure and next generation 911 projects - Calls on states to facilitate the maintenance, repair, and provisioning of communications infrastructure and services by providing online access to relevant government functions, such as the permitting process, where not already available electronically.

Network issues in Israel/Middle East

I know this is outside the scope of “North America”, but has anyone else been fielding more issues related to network health/congestion in the middle east, specifically Israel? Our users in Israel are primarily served from India-based resources (AWS/Azure), both of which have cloud capacity issues in India that I’m aware of. Also, the majority of our users in Israel that have been reporting slowness seem to be mostly behind the ISP Bezeq. If we force them to route to Ireland (which is technically farther away form a latency standpoint) things are much better, so I’m wondering if just Bezeq (or everyone in Israel) is just experiencing 3rd party-related network congestion to Mumbai. BGPmon alerting me about prefixes being withdrawn from Hurricane Electric attached sites

I've already emailed the HE NOC, but curious if anyone else this morning has noticed any of their prefixes going missing from Hurricane Electric attached networks. BGPmon sent me these alerts, happening at different times: Withdraw of Prefix (Code: 97) Your prefix: 104.192.56.0/22: Update time: 2020-05-23 12:28 (UTC) Detected by #peers: 17 Withdraw of Prefix (Code: 97) Your prefix: 96.31.0.0/19: Update time: 2020-05-23 13:08 (UTC) Detected by #peers: 13 When I log into my BGPmon portal and look at the BGPmon peers listed, basically every one is peered directly or indirectly with HE. These BGPmon peers are located all over the world and if those two prefixes were globally withdrawn then the peer count would be much higher. While HE has a looking glass website, I can only choose three at a time, and since these 13 to 17 peers are located all over the world and I don't know what the IPs are, I can't traceroute to figure out what their most likely interconnection point with HE is to look at the appropriate looking glass. The HE NOC is obviously better positioned to see where our prefixes are or are not on their network, which is why I contacted them. Frank AS53347

alternative to voip gateways

I'm looking at a new sister company we just took over, their remote village has 1700 analogue phone lines to the workers huts, but they go nowhere past the MDF. The office runs voip, now i'm told i have to get phones to the workers because the <lots of explicit words> AKA previous owners of that business stopped the build when they ran into financial problems. So my plan is to utilize the existing many miles worth of copper pairs. I'm looking at throwing them into Versa Dslams that use pppoe pass through, throw in a mikoTik 1036 as pppoe server, and we got spare R710 i can use as radius server, and by my limited knowledge this works. OK data done, but... now all those pots out lines need to go somewhere that can handle 1700 or more lines, I am looking at either grandstream 48 port FXS gateways or sangoma vega 50 ports (which Ill use as 48 so theres a 1:1 match with dslams) the vega 3050 probably wont be used because they are more than twice the price of grandstream. But this all results in a sh1te load of 48 port gateways (power is not a concern), but wondering if there is another solution that is more cost effective? Seems the regular NEC's Siemens and so on might have an option but I can imagine it will be far more expensive than a bunch of individual gateways. This project is in my mind workable, but i've not done such a thing on a large scale. Those who have experience in this field care to chime in? is my method acceptable or not for such a project size? most pbx's I've done are only few hundred analogue lines where gateways are more suited and definitely more cost effective, at all our locations we use freepbx which works perfectly, and we know the beefyness of the box we'll need to install to handle this load, thats not a problem if we go down the gateway method. thoughts?
